Overview

M&J Engineering P.C. is a quality provider of multi-discipline consulting services with over 300 employees. Since its inception in 2004 M&J has grown into diversified provider of engineering construction management construction inspection technology and environmental services to a broad range of clients including federal state and city/local agencies private owners architects engineers and contractors.

M&J Engineering is a leader in construction management and inspection ITS mechanical electrical wastewater water supply tunnel airport port marine/coastal environmental engineering and design-build services for both new infrastructure projects and renovations.

M&J is actively seeking a Senior Resident Engineer to work on a major railroad infrastructure improvement project on the Amtrak New Haven-Harford-Springfield rail line for our client CTDOT and Amtrak. This position is a field position on an active construction site.

This position serves as the construction project lead responsible for the management and oversight of a project team; consisting of construction inspectors office engineers and other project support staff working collectively to ensure all construction project work is performed in accordance with the contract documents and all the Clients needs are met.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all project work is performed on schedule on budget according to project plans approved work and safety plans environmental permits and quality standards provided by the contract specifications.
  • Monitor and maintain project CPM schedules and milestones identify and mitigate risk analyze and evaluate constructability issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Evaluate contractor pay requisitions ensure accuracy of billing timely process approval of payment.
  • Review change orders extra work requests perform engineering cost analysis to support negotiations.
  • Coordinate with the contractor and stake holders to mitigate scheduling conflicts and delays.
  • Lead project progress coordination and other incidental meetings.
  • Ensure the client is informed and kept current on project progress and all project issues.

Qualifications

  • B.S. Civil Engineering or other applicable construction management background
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of railroad construction project experience functioning as a project lead on a major railroad infrastructure project of valued at $100M.
  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) registered in the State of Connecticut
  • Must be able to lead and manage CE&I project staff ensure all aspects of project work are accounted for.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within Amtrak NHHS or NEC territory
  • Strong background in construction of railroad track communication and signal (C&S) bridges and structures
  • Knowledgeable of CTDOT policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Amtrak Railroad Force Account management and procedures

Salary Range: $105-$120/hour (commensurate with experience)
