ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Supervisor Food Services is responsible for cleaning and sanitation required within the kitchen dining areas and serveries; transports meals food supplies and dietary equipment throughout the facility; assists with on-line ordering and inventory control for food items and supplies for the Dietary Department in accordance to menus and catering needs.
WHAT YOULL BE DOING
Responsible for the cleaning sanitization and contamination control of major pieces of equipment and of the physical Department in compliance with Department policy and Health and Safety regulations.
Operates commercial cleaning equipment and cleans all areas of the kitchen including washing furnishings floors and walls with special cleaning solutions and disinfectants; washes/wipes and sanitizes all heavy pieces of equipment refrigerators ranges range hoods fans and other stationary and non-stationary equipment.
Cleans pots and other heavy food serving and preparation equipment including food service carts.
Transports meals from the main kitchen area to various dining areas or resident rooms.
Receives food orders; transports food supplies and equipment from storage area to other dining areas.
Maintains kitchen areas in appropriate order.
Assists the Supervisor of Food Service to prepare and regularly update the order guide.
Assists in on the job buddy training system of other employees as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned to meet Branch and Department objectives.
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR
Successful completion of two years of Secondary School and two years previous hands on experience as a kitchen worker in the dietary department of a health care facility or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Successful completion of a Food Service Worker certificate.
Valid Food Handlers Certificate.
As a condition of employment candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) tuberculosis screening and proof of immunization in accordance with the Long-Term Care Homes Act (.79/10).
Knowledge of job related tools and equipment used in a dietary department or related environment including food preparation equipment and familiarity with food ordering procedures.
Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus communication collaboration and personal ownership.
Demonstrated basic computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications and the ability to receive and respond to emails and for ordering on-line.
Good interpersonal and communication skills to work within a diverse community and ability to deal empathetically with residents family members etc. to contribute to their well-being.
Ability to work effectively independently or as a part of a team.
Ability to read write and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs push/pull carts or objects up to 30 lbs use a step ladder to reach high places and withstand long periods of walking/standing and frequent bending and twisting.
Ability to steer and manipulate large and small food wagons and carts through resident areas and congested areas.
Ability to work outside regular business hours as required and to work a variety of shifts.
