Job Description

SUMMARY

Under general supervision devaluates students to determine goals and the best course of occupational therapy to meet individual needs; monitors and documents individual education program (IEP) progress and results and makes adjustments as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential functions as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act may include any of the following representative duties knowledge and skills. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class.

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Evaluates student ability and formulates an occupational profile through functional behavioral and standardized assessments in addition to skilled observations histories and interviews.
  • Organizes evaluation results into a comprehensive written report; participates in team meetings to review results share recommendations and develop individual education plans and interventions to achieve goals.
  • Provides targeted education-based therapeutic interventions to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment.
  • Adapts and modifies the educational environment and the use of assistive technology; trains instructional staff to meet individual needs and help students function as independently as possible.
  • Monitors and reassess the effects of occupational therapy interventions.
  • Documents therapy services to ensure accountability of service provision and meet standards for reimbursement.
  • Manages therapeutic equipment and assessment inventories.
  • Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards State guidelines and school policies.
  • Reviews services for quality improvement opportunities; makes changes as needed to ensure a high quality of service.
  • Provides continuing education and in-services for educational personnel community agencies parents and community based service providers.
  • Supports the relationship between the Minot Public School District and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients visitors and District staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues client records and District information; follows compliance rules governing child abuse; performs related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Training and Experience Guidelines Bachelors Degree in Occupational Therapy or related field; AND one (1) year of experience in a public school or related setting; OR an equivalent combination of education training and experience. Must pass a thorough background investigation.

  • Applicable Federal State and local ordinances statute rules and codes.
  • Record keeping and file maintenance principles and procedures.
  • Current trends in occupational therapy instruction and assessment.
  • Special education laws and regulations.
  • Skill in:
  • Operating a personal computer including standard software and some specializes accounting software.
  • Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Planning and managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of student records and personal information.
  • Assisting children and special needs students.
  • Assessing educational needs.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must be licensed as an Occupational Therapist through the North Dakota State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice.

A valid North Dakota State Drivers License may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in MPS schools and facilities and requires working with children; work involves intense concentration on activities taking place around ones location on a constant basis throughout the entire work day; may be required to physically restrain students if they are at risk of hurting themselves or others
