The Department of Clinical Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is seeking qualified applicants for a 12-month full-time tenured or tenure-track or renewable clinical term-track position in Medical Oncology. Applications are being accepted at the levels of Assistant Associate or Full Professor.
The successful candidate will be expected to be actively engaged in growing and enhancing the regional prominence of our expanding oncology program and contribute significantly to the teaching service and research/scholarship missions of theoncologyteam. Excellent collaborative opportunities for research activities are available within the College of Veterinary Medicine and Iowa State University as well as the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Mayo Clinic.
The successful candidate will be joining an integrated oncology team that includes one medical oncologist (DACVIM) one radiation oncologist (DACVR-RO) four medical oncology residents one radiation oncology resident three technicians one radiation therapist and a local consulting team of radiation physicists. The oncology service is very active in research with multiple ongoing clinical studies in both medical and radiation oncology.
The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center is a newly constructed and renovated building providing a state-of-the-art teaching learning and working facility. Available oncology equipment within the hospital includes a Varian Clinac iX linear accelerator (with 120-leaf Millennium multileaf collimator and onboard imaging including cone beam CT); ARIA Record and Verify system; Varian Eclipse treatment planning system; 1.5T MRI; and helical multi-slice CT. Chemotherapy is administered and prepared in compliance with USP 800 and in close association with our pharmacy which is run by 4 boarded pharmacists. In addition architectural plans for a Small Animal Cancer Clinic at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center are in the final stages of development.
Primary responsibilities include clinical service teaching and scholarly activity. Approximate effort allocation will vary by track and rank but generally includes:
At the rank of Tenured or Tenure-track Assistant Associate or Full Professor the position will consist of 50-60% on clinical/hospital service 25-40% collaborative or independent research 5-10% teaching professionalDVMand graduate student courses and 5% institutional service. At the rank of Clinical Term Assistant Associate or Full Professor the position will consist of 70-80% on clinics/hospital service 10-20% collaborative or independent research 5% teaching professionalDVMand graduate student courses and 5% institutional service. Actual percentages are flexible depending on the candidates expertise and departmental needs.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in scholarly activity. For appointment in the tenure-track the selected individual should have a strong record of training and experience in medical oncology experience with teaching hypothesis-driven research and prior grant writing experience. Collaborative or independent research resulting in peer-reviewed publications and external grant submissions is expected. For an individual in the clinical term-track scholarship could include advancing the discipline of medical oncology through the creation and dissemination of new knowledge or participating in collaborative research.
