The University of Auckland invites applications for the position of DesignLab Technician within theDesign programme in the Faculty of Engineering & Design.

This is a significant opportunity to be a technician within a new type of design education at New Zealands largest and best resourced University. The ideal candidate will be passionate about design especially experimentation rapid prototyping making and iterative practice. They will be working within a team of technicians and design academics to assist staff and students to produce a wide variety of projects.
This is a new programme offering a range of fabrication environments from traditional machinery to digital technologies and sensor environments. The candidate will have proven experience across a range of equipment and skills including:

Our ideal candidate will be comfortable learning new tools and techniques quickly and efficiently (including related software) and have the keenness and confidence to share their knowledge with individuals and groups in the Design Programme community of students researchers and industry partners.
Experience with 3d design software would be a distinct advantage e.g. Fusion 360 3DS Max Rhino3d or SolidWorks as the candidate would be expected to help staff and students solve design issues.
Its an expectation that you stay up to date with relevant technologies and techniques to ensure the best possible solutions are made available to staff and students while also having a solid background in traditional workshop practice. Health and safety is an essential part of the role so a proactive attitude towards ensuring a safe environment vital.
