How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:
ThePolice Accountability Liaison (PAL)is assigned to the MTPD Internal Affairs unit supporting department transparency accountability compliance with accreditation standards and internal investigations through data analysis reporting audit coordination and policy compliance monitoring.What you would do in this job
- Monitor and analyze operational data such as use-of-force incidents and staff discipline trends to identify patterns and support transparency and accountability efforts.
- Collect manage and submit data for internal and external reporting requirements including accreditation and oversight bodies.
- Conduct internal audits and policy compliance reviews in collaboration with leadership and audit teams.
- Ensure department adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g. Minnesota Law Enforcement Accreditation Program).
- Track and report on body-worn camera usage and compliance.
- Support case management for internal investigations by entering data maintaining confidential records and coordinating interviews and meetings.
- Schedule and track employee testing procedures in accordance with health and occupational safety guidelines.
- Respond to data and information requests related to disciplinary matters and accountability metrics.
- Prepare and present audit findings performance metrics and statistical updates to department leadership.
- Attend relevant internal and external meetings and training related to accountability auditing or compliance work.
- Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in handling sensitive information.
What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)
Any of the following combinations of experience (compiling tracking and reporting police department data and statistics) and completed education (degree field of study in Business Administration Program Development Criminal Justice or a related field).
- High school diploma/GED with six (6) years of experience
- Associate degree with four (4) years of experience
- Bachelors degree with two (2) years of experience
- Experience working in public safety law enforcement support internal affairs or compliance-related role
- Experience with data tracking analyzing trends generating reports for a government agency or private industry
- Program Management Certification
- Experience leading meetings and presenting to small groups
- Experience with Microsoft Word Excel Access PowerPoint and the ability to learn new systems
- Experience working with and providing service to a diverse population
- Knowledge of public safety or law enforcement operations policies and data standards.
- Understanding of accreditation or regulatory compliance frameworks such as the Minnesota Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (MNLEAP).
- Familiarity with program development implementation and performance evaluation in public safety or accountability contexts.
- Skilled in preparing and delivering presentations to a variety of internal and external audiences.
- Proficient in accurate record keeping data entry information tracking and management of confidential materials.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for professional correspondence and reporting.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with staff leadership oversight bodies and external partners.
- Ability to interpret and organize data for reporting presentations and decision-making.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks schedules and deadlines.
- Ability to participate in plan and coordinate internal audits to ensure compliance and accountability.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive internal investigations and disciplinary matters.

Work is usually performed in a standard office setting but will require travel between primary work site to other sites periodically.

If you are new to the Metropolitan Council you must pass a drug test (safety sensitive positions only) and a thorough background check conducted by the MTPD which verifies education employment and criminal history. All applicants background checks and fingerprints must be cleared by the Criminal Bureau of Apprehension in order to be a user of their CJIS system. Failure to be cleared by BCA will automatically nullify any job offer extended. A driving record check and/or physical may be conducted if applicable to the job. If you have a criminal conviction you do not automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a case-by-case basis based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.
If you are already an employee of the Metropolitan Councilyou must pass a drug test (if moving from a non-safety sensitive position to a safety sensitive position) and criminal back ground check if the job youre applying for is safety sensitive is a supervisory or management job is in the Finance Information Services Audit or Human Resources departments or has access to financial records files/databases cash vouchers or transit fare cards.
