Job Description
A Geotechnical Engineer is a key member of the Technical Services Team and assists the Dawson Mine site in all strata control matters. As the Geotechnical Engineer you will use your technical expertise to assist the Technical Services Team develop sound mine designs which enable the depletion of the deposit in a safe and productive manner.
A key aspect of the Geotechnical Engineers work is the gathering of geotechnical data in the field and from exploration drilling you will also assist the Mine Production Teams in managing geotechnical hazards on site including the investigation of the hazards and the development of risk mitigation strategies in line with the sites Principal Hazard Management Plan.
As a visible leader of the work place the Geotechnical Engineer promotes the Anglo Americans safety culture when interacting with the workforce and increases the awareness of geotechnical hazards through transparent decision making and positive communication.
You must have a strong commitment to health safety & environmental standards as well as strong planning technical knowledge and interpersonal skills.
Experience with Rocscience Software (Slide Dips) is highly desirable. Exposure to DESWIK I-SITE Studio & UAV Drones will also be highly regarded. You will utilise your experience of the coal mining process as well as your knowledge in geotechnical modelling software to deliver achievable and efficient mine designs/plans.
Qualifications :
In order to be considered for this position you will have a Bachelor of Engineering (Geotechnical or Mining) with 2-5 years experience.
It is essential for the incumbent to demonstrate prior experience and/or knowledge in the following:
- Previous experience within mining operations (preferably coal) at least 2-5 years in an Open Cut environment will be highly regarded.
- Provide geotechnically sound stability assessments of life of mine Mid-term & Short-term stages.
- Gather geotechnical data through wall mapping exploration logging & sampling.
- Assist the sites geology team in developing executing exploration programs including geotechnical sampling and logging.
- Develop & maintaining geotechnical databases for rock mass strength defect strength & defect mapping.
- Developing and maintaining the Ground Control Hazard Plans and Geotechnical Domains based on the most up to date geological and geotechnical data.
- Adopting a Rock Mass Rating system for the site.
- Performing pit reconciliations and pit floor sign-off to ensure sufficient floor treatment for future dump stability.
- Must have at least one of the following qualifications Mining Engineering OR Civil Engineering OR Geology.
