About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

The Dong Theoretical and Computational Chemistry Lab at Northeastern University seeks an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to start as soon as possible. The research focus will be on developing and applying first-principles-basedand data-driven computational methods to understand multiscale processes and to accelerate chemical discoveries for renewable energy biomedicine and other areas of societal importance. Coding and/or machine learning experiences are highly valued. Specific projects may involve developing multiscale simulation methods for quantum mechanical properties of macromolecules developing novel ways to combine quantum chemical methods and machine learning developing quantum algorithms for computational chemistry on quantum computers and applying existing and new computational methods to study multiscale processes in catalysis and photochemistry. Other projects that align with our general interest are also possible. Please see further details.

The primary responsibility of the postdoc is to conduct research. The postdoc is also expected to write research papers present research at meetings contribute to research proposals manage research data and software and assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.

HOW TO APPLY

Applications should contain a cover letter briefly describing the candidates research experience and interests a full CV with a publication list names of at least three references and Ph.D. completion date. Review of applications will be on a rolling basis.

The position will remain open until filled. The initial appointment is for one year with the potential for extension depending on regular progress evaluation and continuation of funding.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D. in chemistry physics materials science chemical engineering bioengineering or a closely related field.

The candidate should have strong problem-solving skills and be highly motivated. Programming skills (Python or Fortran preferred but not required) are desired. Experiences with catalysis (biological homogeneous or heterogeneous) excited-state simulation methods multiscale simulations (broadly defined) molecular dynamics simulations sampling techniques machine learning or quantum computing are big pluses. The candidate should have good communication skills both oral and written and are willing to work in a multidisciplinary environment.

Expected Hiring Range:

$59423.00 - $83934.50

With the pay range(s) shown above the starting salary will depend on several factors which may include your education experience location knowledge and expertise and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
