Infection Preventionist

Initiates implements and coordinates infection prevention standards throughout the hospital under the direction of the Chairman of the Infection Prevention Committee and the Director of Infection Prevention.

Evaluates epidemiological activities hospital-wide and acts as a resource person for orientation patient care staff education employee health and development of hospital-wide infection control policies procedures and practices and participates in orientation for all new employees as well as infection control inservice education for all employees and attends educational conferences and programs to maintain awareness of current hospital infection control practices.

Current RN registration with Mississippi Board of Nursing or a Medical Technologist certified with ASCP. CIC certification is required. CIC certification within 2 years of hire for applicants new to this position. CIC certification within 1 year of hire for experienced (greater than 2 years as an infection preventionist) or returning uncertified applicants.

Must have working knowledge of asepsis and microbiology good oral and written communication skills and good judgment in implementing appropriate infection control procedures. Must demonstrate ability to recognize patients individual needs based on medical conditions age (infant pediatric adolescent young middle-aged and geriatric adult) limitations and planned procedures.
