-Anticipated Vacancy-

The Health Inspection Program (HIP) located within Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) is looking for a Public Health Inspector Supervisor to supervise and manage a team of public health inspectors. This position will serve as one (1) of the US FDA Certified Training Officers responsible for training and standardizing state and municipal inspectors in conducting food safety inspections and providing continuing education training. Additionally this position will set training standards and will develop implement and coordinate and evaluate public health inspection programs.

As a Public Health Inspector Supervisor you will provide direct supervision to several field Public Health Inspector I positions and provide functional oversight for municipal health inspectors. You will be responsible for administering public health inspection and training programs. As a Certified Training Officer by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) youll be responsible for the certification and standardization of all State and municipal public health inspectors performing food inspections and functions. In this role you will be on call for after-hour emergencies such as fires floods ice storms power outages and food and waterborne illness outbreaks for establishments licensed by the Public Health Inspection Program.

Core Responsibilities:

As a key member of the OPHE team your core responsibilities will include:

Supervising a team of public health inspectors in the field and providing functional oversight for municipal inspectors.
Developing managing and updating the food safety training programs.
Standardizing and re-standardizing all state and municipal health inspectors in food safety inspections.
Maintaining training records.
Conducting quality assurance audits on a random basis of all state and municipal inspectors.
Performing independent inspection and investigations in the field as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

An eight (8) year combination of education and/or professional experience in public health environmental or biological science health education or practical experience including food service managerial experience with an emphasis in the management of food production or food processing operations third party food production inspection auditing or prior experience in the inspection of food production or food processing operations.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:(These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class). Certified as an FDA Certified Training Officer for food inspections. Obtain FDA standardization for food inspections Certified Food Protection Manager Certification and Certified Pool Operator Certification after hire. Additional certifications may be required.

Preferred candidates will also have:

o Knowledge of applicable Federal State and local health safety and sanitation laws rules and regulations including the State of Maine Food Code.
o Knowledge of modern public health methods principles and practices.
o Knowledge of biological chemical and environmental principles related to public health.
o Knowledge of information systems information gathering analysis and reporting and ability to use computer techniques systems and databases.
o Ability to train and instruct others and supervise staff.
o Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
o Ability to identify issues analyze data reach logical conclusions and make sound decisions and recommendations.
o Ability to recommend and draft policies rules regulations and laws.
o Ability to conduct investigations and inspections.
o Ability to work with managers and staff to identify training needs and research information on training/meeting opportunities and to provide outreach materials for those in need of technical assistance.
o Ability to work independently.
