Job Summary:
Join our dynamic Tracked Products Engineering Heavy Structures team as a Design Engineer for Electric Rope Shovels Draglines and Hydraulic Mining Shovel products. In this thrilling role youll dive into the design and analysis of cutting-edge components working closely with top-tier manufacturers and suppliers. Youll be at the forefront of innovation driving New Product Introductions (NPI) collaborating on New Supplier Introductions and spearheading Continuous Product Improvements (CPI). Your expertise will ensure our products remain at the pinnacle of excellence while you also play a crucial role in maintaining our high standards.
What You Will Do:
- Create design concepts and drawings of complex structural systems that meet functional and technical requirements cost and weight goals quality initiatives and manufacturing process requirements.
- Perform fatigue analysis on the concept using Creo Simulate.
- Support validation activities such as test and field trials.
- Support and lead APQP activities.
- Collaborate with external suppliers and internal manufacturing facilities engineering partners and the core Product Group.
Education requirement:
Bachelors degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.
What skills you will have:
Technical Excellence:
- Skilled in developing durable heavy-structure designs that consistently meet engineering and performance requirements.
- Proficient in using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software to simulate and analyze structural behavior under various load conditions optimizing designs for durability and efficiency.
- Provide and guide technical solutions by advising others resolving issues with subject matter experts and applying strong problem-solving skills.
- Mentor and coach team members to enhance technical competence and promote effective business-aligned solutions.
- Demonstrate accountability by owning personal technical performance and encouraging responsibility in others.
Product Design - MFG:
- Knowledge collaborating with suppliers to optimize designs for ease of manufacturability.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including procurement production and quality assurance to align design objectives with manufacturing capabilities.
- Develop and evaluate product improvement plans for senior management ensuring designs meet functional requirements and incorporate customer feedback.
- Advise and train teams on advanced tools design methodologies and product functionality across multiple initiatives.
- Oversee complex design processes by coordinating resources managing costs and aligning outcomes with business goals.
Product Design and Development:
- Create innovative and effective design solutions that fulfill product functional requirements.
- Conduct thorough analysis and selection of materials to ensure product durability performance and cost-effectiveness considering factors like strength weight and environmental impact.
- Establish organizational standards and introduce innovative techniques to streamline complex product and service development.
- Supervise diverse product portfolios guiding design prototyping and proof-of-concept efforts to validate new ideas.
- Advise on complex design challenges ensuring efficient effective solutions aligned with business objectives.
Effective Communication:
- Adapt documents and presentationsto suit the intended audience.
- Communicate with empathy and assertivenesswhen expressing needs or defending positions.
- Engage effectively across all levelsof the organization using appropriate methods of persuasion to gain alignment.
Top candidates will also have:
- Electric Rope Shovel Dragline or Hydraulic Mining Shovel product knowledge.
- Familiarity with Caterpillar Engineering Systems(Teamcenter HVC EDS etc.).
- Background in NPI or CPI programs.
- Involvement in executing APQP.
Additional Information:
This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week at the Tucson AZ office.
Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position may require 10% travel.
