Job Description
We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:
Arlington VA USA
The Amazon Security Enterprise Protection team builds tools and services for the monitoring and response to malicious activity on the Amazon internal network. We collect process and analyze data from all parts of Amazons worldwide infrastructure to identify and reduce risks to Amazon.
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer who is excited about designing and building solutions to solve challenging problems for mission critical systems that protect Amazon and our customer data. In Amazon Security our challenges are broad and deep -- we build flexible secure scalable high-performance and robust tools and services. You will help implement operate and improve current services as well as build new features to improve the customer experience and make it easier/faster/cheaper for the customer to get what they need.

In this role you will deliver high quality scalable products that are deployed to our internal services around the world. You will collaborate with product owners and customers to deliver the best features using resources and technologies efficiently. You will work with stakeholders to define solutions that scale and satisfy a wide variety of security needs. You are detail driven and have excellent problem solving abilities. The successful candidate is passionate about delivering extensible on-time solutions and has experience working within a high-performance team.
On-Call Responsibility
This position involves on-call responsibilities. We dont like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged we work together to resolve the root cause so that we dont get paged for the same issue twice.
- 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2 years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C C# Java Python Golang PowerShell Ruby
- 3 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience
- Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent
- 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 3 years of administrative experience in networking storage systems operating systems and hands-on systems engineering experience
- Experience leading or mentoring junior engineers
- Experience with designing and building event-driven architectures
- Experience with test-driven development.
- Meets/exceeds Amazons leadership principles requirements for this role.
- Meets/exceeds Amazons functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.
- Experience with DevOps practices including CI/CD source control and infrastructure-as-code.
- Experience with developing software in an Agile framework.
- Experience building solutions using AWS infrastructure.
