General Description

Citizens on Patrol (CoP) are an invaluable resource to our agency. These individuals donate their time and talents to not only this agency but the community in which they live and serve. Our team acts as the eyes and ears of our community by performing crime watch activities that alerts the Sheriffs Office of hazards and unlawful behavior and when requested assists Sheriffs Office personnel in the performance of their duties such as traffic control traffic crashes disabled vehicles community events and special assignments as requested.

Typical Duties

Community Policing and CoPs
The Seminole County Sheriffs Office believes in the philosophy of Community Policing and the Citizens on Patrol Program is a natural extension of this. CoPs provide our community with a personalized service approach that helps to create a proactive partnership between the community and law enforcement. Citizens on Patrol (CoP) patrol the community in specially marked vehicles and assist deputies when requested with traffic control traffic crashes and disabled vehicles. CoPs also assist with community events providing escort duties for funeral processions or visiting dignitaries and helping with special assignments and operations as needed.

External applicants for employment will submit to a thorough background investigation which includes but not limited to past employment/education verification driver license review credit history prior drug use history arrest/conviction record and computerized voice stress analysis (CVSA) testing. A certified examiner administers the CVSA with questions addressing illegal drug use and general questions of honesty and criminal history. Any dishonesty or deception on the Employment Application will disqualify your application.

The background investigation process may take 3-6 months depending upon the complexity of the applicants background and position for which youve applied. Applicants selected for employment will be provided a conditional offer and required to submit to a medical examination with drug screening.

Candidates must also comply with the Agencys current Tattoo and Body Ornamentation Policy. A copy of
General Order 28 - Dress and Appearance can be accessed here. An applicants tattoos and body ornamentation must be disclosed at the time of application and will be documented as part of the agencys review process even if otherwise meeting the Agencys policy.


Applicants not selected for employment will receive notification from the Human Resources Division to include justification based on the following disqualifiers: negative background failure to meet minimum qualifications as outlined in the specific job description or any additional information discovered during the interview process. Applicants will be eligible to reapply with the Seminole County Sheriffs Office after one year from date of notification.
