You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Stead Family Department of Pediatrics Division of Medical Genetics is seeking a Dietician/Metabolic Nutritionist -.
To plan for and provide nutritional services for patients and families with inborn errors of metabolism. To provide consultation and training for other health professionals in Iowa who may be working with this patient population.
Duties to include:
Provides appropriate nutritional counseling and education to individuals or their parents with metabolic disorders.
Consults with medical and nursing staff regarding metabolic patients care.
Staffs with providers covering metabolic clinic (during/immediately following clinic).
Responds to referrals and consults recommends and implements diet orders accordingly.
Monitors biochemical indices to assess effectiveness of dietary treatment.
Monitors growth parameters as a means of assessing adequacy/appropriateness of dietary treatment.
Maintains consistent patient follow-up program for management of metabolic disorders.
Initiates and maintains comprehensive nutrition and dietary records for each patient.
Monitors active metabolic clinic patients when they are admitted to hospital and advises inpatient staff.
Develops age-appropriate teaching modules for children/parents of children with Phenylketonuria (PKU) to document ability understanding of phenylalanine (PHE)-restricted diet.
Participates in the development of metabolic and treatment protocols.
Participates in research projects and in the education and training of students in the metabolic area.
Provides consultation and education services regarding metabolic disorder to physicians regional nutritionists and other professionals involved in the care of the metabolic patient.
Attends outreach metabolic clinics (6 per year).
Participates in the development and presentation of staff seminars nutrition rounds reports and conference summaries.
Maintains formula sample inventory. Orders formula for patients.
Provides consultation to the Metabolic Food Program about appropriate foods for the program and patients who are eligible for the program.
Attends Clinical & Molecular Genetics Case Conference and Genetics Journal Club weekly.

Required Qualifications
A Masters degree in Foods and Nutrition or Dietetics or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
Registration by the American Dietetic Association and an Iowa license is necessary.
Experience in pediatric nutrition nutrition and the developmentally disabled child or nutrition in inborn errors of metabolism is required.
