Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Senior Dean of Allied Health and Nursing the Associate Dean will organize direct develop administer and supervise all operations of the Nursing Education Programs based on established policies of the college. Additionally the Associate Dean will supervise the Nursing office and support staff process standard administrative paperwork; assistance with community outreach activities and accreditation processes; and any other support activity as deemed appropriate by the Senior Dean.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct develop implement and supervise the operation of Nursing Programs including general administration program curriculum and accreditation.

  • Provide leadership for all activities of the Nursing Programs.

  • Direct supervise and administer Nursing Programs activities relating to student recruitment enrollment retention evaluations promotion completion preparation for licensure and placement.

  • Develop Nursing Programs goals and objectives in collaboration with faculty; prepare and administer budget; provide leadership in seeking additional funding sources through private state and federal grants; monitor and approve expenditures related to the Nursing Programs.

  • Initiate and maintain contractual agreements with service agencies used for Nursing Programs student clinical placements.

  • Attend a variety of health care organization meetings including those at clinical agencies mandated by the California Board of Nursing and NLNAC.

  • Supervise and evaluate the Health Professions technicians and coordinate their ordering and maintenance of supplies and equipment for all Nursing Professions laboratories. Supervise support staff for all Nursing Programs.

  • In collaboration with faculty and other administrators interpret develop and administer Nursing Programs department policies and procedures; review and coordinate revision of Nursing Faculty Handbook the Nursing Student Handbook and catalog and brochure information relevant to the Programs.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and administrators; communicate with a variety of community college personnel; maintain professional relationships with members and representatives of other local state and national committees and organizations.

  • Attend Program-related activities campus health care organizational and professional committee meetings and conferences; represent and play an active role in local state and national programs and organizations related to nursing; provide assistance with community outreach activities for other Health Professions departments.

  • Recruit screen hire train develop supervise and evaluate Nursing Programs faculty members; in collaboration with faculty and other appropriate administrators prepare and implement Nursing Programs class schedules and faculty assignments; provide guidance and work direction.

  • Maintain Nursing Programs student records and program statistics.

  • Ensure compliance with the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) rules and Nursing Programs-related regulations clinical facility regulations Education Code union contracts the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) guidelines and other district local state and federal regulations.

  • Provide leadership and procedural expertise in the development of self-study for BRN and NLNAC accreditation/re-accreditation visits; coordinate visits of BRN and NLNAC site examiners; respond to and implement BRN and NLNAC recommendations.

  • Develop coordinate and implement Nursing Programs class and teaching schedules; coordinate Nursing Programs curriculum development and revision.

  • Serve as liaison between Nursing Programs staff and Senior Dean.

  • Collaborate with Nursing Programs faculty Advisory Committee members and professionals in the community in monitoring change in community needs demographics health care reform etc. in order to maintain state-of-the-art curricula which reflect responsiveness to community needs.

  • Prepare Nursing Programs department district state and federally-mandated reports.

  • Review and approve administrative paperwork related to all Nursing programs.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Education Code Title 5 and other administrative regulations and the ability to apply these regulations.

  • Technical aspects of field of specialty.

  • Ability to successfully delegate ensure adherence to College and District policies practices and procedures hold others responsible yet instill confidence among the faculty and staff.

  • Ability to exercise academic leadership to advance the Colleges mission.

  • Ability to participate in the College planning process while participating in the achievement of the goals and priorities of the District as a whole.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and responsively with all segments of the College District and community at large.

  • Ability to participate in the process development and achievement of the college vision and communicate that to faculty and staff.

  • Commitment to the community college concept including the open door philosophy and a diverse curriculum for a heterogeneous student population.

  • Community resources that integrate with college services.

  • Commitment to a comprehensive student-oriented environment that facilitates learning and student development.

  • Dedication to keeping students informed while seeking their opinions and providing a range of student services.

  • Dedication to the improvement of the educational process.

  • Facilitate communication and understanding of perspectives among faculty staff students and the community within the framework of a multi-college district.

  • Read interpret and explain complex laws regulations requirements policies and procedures.

  • Interpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesy.

  • Sensitivity to all facets of the community including the needs of various groups that comprise it.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A masters or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing education or administration and one years experience as an administrator with validated performance of administrative responsibilities and two years experience teaching in pre-or post- licensure registered nursing programs and one continuous full-time or its equivalent experience direct patient care as a registered nurse OR equivalent experience and/or education as determined by the Board of Registered Nursing. Must have active Registered Nurse licensure in the state of California
