Your day to day as a Utility Field Person Apprentice

As a Full-Time Utility Field Person Apprentice at Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation (SLEMCO) you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the safety and cleanliness of substation sites. Your responsibilities include performing essential maintenance tasks such as grass cutting and site leveling ensuring our facilities are kept in pristine condition. You will operate a four-wheel drive vehicle and uphold rigorous maintenance standards for heavy equipment used in daily operations. Additionally you will assist the Right-of-Way team with bush hog operations and herbicide applications while also repairing any consumer property that may be affected by SLEMCOs activities. Adherence to Cooperative OSHA and state regulatory rules is vital as you will prioritize safety in every aspect of the work environment.

This role combines hands-on tasks with a commitment to excellence and integrity making it an invaluable opportunity for career growth in the electric utility sector.

To thrive as a Full-Time Utility Field Person Apprentice at Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation (SLEMCO) candidates must possess a blend of technical and interpersonal skills. A strong ability to work harmoniously with team members and engage effectively with the public is essential for success in this customer-centric role. Proficiency in operating hand tools including shovels rakes chainsaws and weed eaters is critical for performing maintenance tasks efficiently.

Moreover the ability to understand and follow both written and oral instructions is necessary to ensure compliance with safety protocols and operational standards. Candidates should also demonstrate satisfactory skills in using and maintaining lawn equipment and ATVs keeping them in optimal working condition. A valid Louisiana state drivers license is required and applicants should either hold or be willing to acquire a Louisiana state Commercial Pesticide Applicators license with a Commercial Drivers License being a potential requirement as well.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Good ability to work harmoniously with others and to deal effectively with the public. Must be able to operate hand tools; such as shovels rakes chainsaws & weed eaters.
  • Must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Satisfactory ability to use and maintain lawn equipment and ATV in good condition.
  • Valid Louisiana state drivers license is required.
  • Should hold or be able to acquire a Louisiana state Commercial Pesticide Applicators license.
  • Should hold or be able to acquire a CDL.
