Annealer Position Overview:
The Annealer at Chance Aluminum is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of aluminum annealing ovens to ensure proper mechanical properties and material quality. This role plays a critical part in the manufacturing process by controlling heat treatment cycles for aluminum coils and products in accordance with production specifications and quality standards.
Annealer Essential Responsibilities:
- Improve and develop annealing recipes to ensure consistent successful oven cycles. Work with the production team and lab to base oven cycles on all available data.
- Operate and monitor annealing ovens to heat-treat aluminum coils according to standard operating procedures and customer requirements.
- Load and unload coils into annealing ovens using overhead cranes or other handling equipment.
- Accurately input and monitor temperature cycle time and cooling parameters for various aluminum alloys.
- Perform in-process quality checks and visual inspections to ensure product integrity and conformance.
- Collaborate with production supervisors and quality engineers to resolve process deviations and optimize annealing schedules.
- Record and maintain detailed production data including lot numbers cycle parameters temperature charts and material tracking.
- Conduct routine checks and light maintenance of annealing equipment report abnormalities to the maintenance team.
- Adhere to all company safety procedures including use of PPE lockout/tagout protocols and confined space entry (if required).
- Support process improvement initiatives related to thermal treatment energy efficiency and product quality.
- Participate in training and cross-training efforts within the heat treat and manufacturing department.
Annealer Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a metals manufacturing or heat treatment environment.
- Understanding of basic metallurgical concepts and heat treatment processes for aluminum.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions production schedules and technical specifications.
- Comfortable operating heavy equipment (e.g. overhead cranes forklifts).
- Basic computer skills for data entry and production tracking.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
Preferred:
- Technical certification or associate degree in metallurgy industrial operations or a related field.
- Familiarity with SPC (Statistical Process Control) ISO standards and Lean manufacturing principles
- Experience with SCADA systems or programmable oven controllers.
- Forklift and crane operation certifications.
Physical Requirements:
- Tolerance for high-heat work environments and physically demanding tasks.
- Must be able to stand climb bend and reach throughout an 812-hour shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Work Schedule:
- Full-time position with possible on-call availability for emergencies.
- Rotating shifts may be required including weekends and holidays.
