Job Description:

Are you passionate about helping students achieve their educational dreams Join our team as a Financial Aid Advisor II and be a key resource in supporting students access to higher education. In this role youll serve as a trusted advisor to students and their families guiding them through the financial aid process with care and clarity. Youll play an integral part in ensuring timely awarding of aid maintaining regulatory compliance and contributing to the universitys enrollment goals. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the awarding and processing of federal state institutional and private aid programs.
  • Monitor student eligibility and make necessary adjustments to aid packages in compliance with federal state and institutional regulations.
  • Utilize daily reports and data systems to ensure accurate and timely processing of financial aid.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders including federal and state agencies high school counselors and financial institutions.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service through in-person phone and electronic communications.
  • Advise students and families on financial aid eligibility application processes and program requirements.
  • Provide personalized guidance on college financial planning student loan borrowing repayment and university billing.

About the Office of Student Financial Aid:
The Office of Student Financial Aid is a unit within the Division of Academic Affairs at Iowa State University administering over $500 million in financial aid annually. More than 85% of undergraduate students and many domestic graduate students receive some form of aid through our office. We are committed to student success providing education and outreach to help students make informed decisions and maximize their financial resources throughout their academic journey at Iowa State.

This is a term position with an end date of July 31 2026 with the potential for renewal contingent upon funding.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.


Example of Duties

  • Reviews daily report output to maintain integrity of federal state institutional or private aid programs
  • Analyzes data compiles reports and applies judgement.
  • Evaluates individual circumstances and documentation and makes adjustments or exceptions based on judgment.
  • Assists students and families by making recommendations interpreting regulations and reviewing petitions.
  • Counsels students and families regarding financial aid including eligibility application procedures aid programs costs indebtedness money management and financial planning.
  • Provides status updates regarding eligibility scholarships and applications.
  • Provides specialized support for Funds Management Team.

Applies broad working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex difficult and varied problems and issues
Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems

May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
Provides guidance to students
