The Opportunity:
Working within our Counselling and Gender Based ViolenceServices Department the Family Counsellor will provides counselling support tonewcomer immigrant and refugee individuals and families. This role willinvolve in-person services for children youth and their families. This rolewill include providing group sessions for camps focused on mental health andwellness. Our counselling services and interventions are individualized foreach client and family with the aim of reducing barriers the client is facingand increasing capacity through a strength-based therapeutic approach. To servethe needs of our community candidates must be able to provide services in English as well as other languages such as Spanish.
Key Responsibilities:
Developstrong therapeutic relationships with clients and families to achieve theirgoals and meet their needs.
Providegroup and individual psycho-educational support for children youth andfamilies facilitated alongside other program activities.
Developand modify group curriculum reflecting most emergent practice andevidence-based support.
Collaboratewith colleagues to identify groups and activities as relevant to thedemographic of children and youth.
Participatein client service planning alongside clients and other counsellors within thedepartment.
Completescreenings and assessments for referral clients.
Establisha supportive therapeutic relationship with clients and their support systems.
Developcrisis and service plans with each client and their supports to support andmaintain client wellness as needed.
Establishand maintain non-judgmental therapeutic relationships with clients andcollaborate and consult with colleagues and other community resources.
Assistwith developing/providing education services as required and participate inintegrated service delivery.
Participatein case conferences team meetings and professional development evaluationand quality improvement activities.
Makereferrals to other services as needed.
Mandatory Qualifications:
Bachelorsdegree in counselling psychology social work or a related discipline from arecognized program.
Fluency inSpanish
A minimumof 2-years of recent experience facilitating pyscho-educational groups andgroup therapy or an equivalent combination of education training andexperience.
Mastersdegree in Counselling an asset.
Excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills.
Strongcomputer skills including Microsoft suite (Outlook Word Excel and Teams);
Demonstratedability to work collaboratively and independently.
Class 5 BCDrivers License and access to a vehicle.
A criminal record check is required as part of this process.
