Position Overview:
The Graduate School seeks a dynamic and organized Professional Development Program Coordinator to support the Director of Professional Development in enhancing the professional growth and career readiness of graduate students. The Program Coordinator will play a key role in coordinating initiatives and services that support graduate students in their academic journey and transition to careers. This position also supports mentor programming for undergraduate students interested in pursuing graduate education.

Typical Duties
The typical duties and responsibilities of the Professional Development Program Coordinatorinclude but are not limited to the following:

Program Coordination & Student Support:

  • Support planning and execution of professional development events; provide logistical and administrative assistance; serve as a resource for graduate students; track engagement.

Mentoring Initiatives:

  • Coordinate the Graduate School Mentoring Program including matching communications and events; support recruitment and retention; draft reports and outreach materials.

Career & Research Opportunities:

  • Assist with promoting access to internships fellowships and post-graduate opportunities for graduate students.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Attend meetings and support collaboration with internal and external partners.

Communication & Outreach:

  • Assist in creating marketing materials and managing program communications.

Administrative Support:

  • Maintain organized records of programs student participation and outcomes.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree and 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (includes Word Excel PowerPoint) with intermediate to advanced knowledge of the Google Suite applications.
  • Experience with Zoom DocuSign and Adobe.
  • Discretion in handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in administrative support role preferable.
  • Ability to function well in a complex fast-paced multitasking work environment that regularly includes a variety of projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to respond to requests with a professional and positive demeanor and the desire to create a positive and enthusiastic environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect professionalism and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
