TheOffice of Student Involvement(OSI) serves as a resource for students and 250 student groups looking for ways to foster a sense of community through leadership development and programming. In addition to organizing developing and creating New Student Orientation the Office of Student Involvement plans large scale community events such as Welcome Week Student Involvement Fair Fall Fest Winter Weekend Spring Fling and Senior Week.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Involvement the Assistant Director works collaboratively as a member of the Student Affairs division and is responsible for the day-to-day management of Wesleyan Student Assembly (WSA) recognized student organizations.
In addition to managing recognized student organizations the Assistant Director implements university-wide programs for the undergraduate campus community. The Assistant Director also supports the annual Office of Student Involvement (OSI) programs including Orientation Spring Fling and Senior Week.
Specific responsibilities include:
Student Advising:
Oversee and maintain web-based student organization administration system (WesNest).
Coordinate the annual registration process/renewal process for student organizations including maintaining officers contact information and other materials such as membership rosters constitutions and other documents.
Advise student leaders on conflict management interpersonal relationships and leadership development.
Support student leaders in the development of procedures protocol and structure for their student group.
Serve as the primary advisor for the Community Committee (CoCo) of theWSA.
Advise the Community Committee (CoCo) of the WSA to approve student organizations and make sure they are in alignment with university policies and procedures.
Provide guidance on student group trends and data to help establish accurate group approval guidelines.
Oversee and assistWSACommunity Committee (CoCo) Chair with new/frozen student group review process.
Provide support and assistance for student leadership projects overseen by Student Assembly Leadership Board.
Support the Equity and Inclusion (EIC) Chair of the WSA with Diversity Equity and Inclusion implementations related to student organizations.
Advise WSA student leadership on policy procedures and organizational development to ensure alignment with the Office of Student Involvement.
Supervision:
Oversee student employee management training and evaluation.
Recruit select and supervise student Office Assistant staff and Cardinal Programming Board.
Supervise Graduate Leadership Intern to provide leadership opportunities for Wesleyan students and manage annual leadership awards selection.
Supervise Orientation Graduate Student and Orientation Interns for Orientation social events.
Organize professional development activities for student employees.
Oversee late-night programming by the Cardinal Programming Board to develop a robust programming calendar that enhances the student community.
Programs and Initiatives:
Lead the development planning and coordination of university-wide programs for students including late-night programming day programs and other Office of Student Involvement (OSI) sponsored events.
Develop plan and implement required leadership workshops for student group leaders.
Provide guidance and support for the implementation of in-person and virtual New Student Orientation.
Assist in coordination of Senior Week events and Senior Officer transitions.
Work with campus partners to create a collaborative and organized approach to supporting student groups.
Plan Annual Club Fairs by working collaboratively with the Community Committee (CoCo) Chair.
Participate in department-wide planning of programs and initiatives and collaborate with others to ensure high-quality events and services for students.
Administrative:
Review and execute performance and service contracts for various vendors.
Manage the Student Programming Fund Leadership and Programming budgets.
Assist the Associate Director with establishing office budget allocations for the year.
Maintain a list of student groups that utilize spaces/storage in the University Organizing Center (UOC).
Oversee granting of access and establishment of functional hours for the University Organizing Center (UOC) with consultation from the Community Committee (CoCo) Chair.
Maintain Inventory Tracking System for the Office of Student Involvement.
Assist the Associate Director with the creation of campus-wide communications.
Purchase items for student organizations utilizing the Student Programming Fund.
Participate in department planning and assessment activities.
Facilitate student referrals to appropriate campus departments/resources.
Represent the Office of Student Involvement on various campus committees.
Assist with the development of department goals objectives and reports.
Oversee all Office of Student Involvement social media accounts.
Other duties as assigned.
This position is required to work on campus.
(Relocation assistance to CT is available for those who qualify).
Bachelors Degree and a minimum of two years related experience or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
Familiarity with advising student organizations.
Familiarity with leadership development/student development workshops.
Familiarity with coordinating student programs and events.
Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and collaborating with individuals of different backgrounds.
Prior experience working both independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated effective communication skills.
Demonstrated experience using a variety of computer software applications.
Prior experience coordinating large projects and handling multiple demands efficiently.
Ability to work some nights and weekends.
Masters Degree.
Higher education work experience.
Previous budget management experience.
Demonstrated experience advising organizations/student groups.
Demonstrated experience working with and/or implementing student engagement platforms.
Supervisory experience
