Job Description

Alliance Services Plus is seeking an HPC Engineer / Research Software Developer (M/F/D) to strengthen our teams in developing high-performance climate models.

The client

The client is an internationally renowned climate computing center that provides high-performance computing services for climate research. They work with the latest generation HPC systems to enable high-resolution climate simulations essential for understanding climate change.

Role

As an HPC Engineer you will join a team passionate about high performance computing and research software development. You will contribute to improving modern climate models by adapting and optimizing code for current and future supercomputers.

You will work in a stimulating international environment at the interface between applied computer science and scientific application development with great creative freedom in your technical approaches.

Your main missions:

  • Optimize and modernize climate models written in Fortran with OpenACC

  • Adapt software to the client HPC environments including evaluation of new compilers

  • Implement solutions to optimize climate simulations on the client systems

  • Collaborate with international teams of researchers and computer scientists

  • Work directly with compiler and hardware providers

  • Participate in international conferences project meetings and hackathons

  • Present your results and contribute to continuous training

Required technical skills:

  • Parallel Programming: Strong experience in MPI OpenMP

  • GPU Programming: CUDA HIP or OpenACC

  • Development Tools: Git Spack shell scripting

  • Languages: Fortran OpenACC standards

  • HPC Environments: High performance computing systems supercomputers with GPUs

Profile sought:

  • Education: Academic degree in computational science applied mathematics or equivalent

  • Experience: Strong experience in parallel programming for HPC systems

  • Technical expertise: GPU programming and mastery of development tools

  • Communication: Excellent communication skills very good level of English

  • Passion: Enjoyment of programming and working with state-of-the-art supercomputers

  • International and interdisciplinary team spirit

  • Autonomy in a research environment

Practical information

  • Location: Hamburg Germany

  • Flexibility: Remote work up to 100% possible within Germany

  • Contract: Fixed-term contract (upto 5 years)

  • Start date: Ideally August 2025 (latest November 2025)

  • Working time: Full-time with flexible hours

  • Compensation: According to qualifications (TVD-Bund scale)
