Director of Community and Belonging
Hendrix College is seeking a full-time12-month administrative staff position. Reporting to an associate Provost the Director of Community and Belonging is tasked withadvancing institutional initiatives aimed at enhancing student retention and degree completion with a particular focus on supporting students who are traditionally underrepresented or at elevated risk of academic interruption or attrition. The individual in this role will support Hendrix in developing and implementing strategic programs experiential learning opportunities targeted training sessions and intentional support interventions aimed at faculty staff and students. This role will liaise among other student-facing offices such as the Office of Student Affairs the Office of International Programs the Chaplains office and the Office of Academic Success.Key Responsibilities - Support increased retention by developing and delivering programs and services that promote student connection leadership development and holistic personal and academic growth;
- Collaborate with the Office of International Programs to support international students in their time at the institution and in preparing for post-graduation careers;
- Support compliance requirements related to civil rights regulations such as Title VI of the Civil Rights Act;
- Plan design and coordinate cultural events and heritage celebrations (e.g. Black History Month MLK Day Pride Month Hispanic/Latino Heritage religious and interfaith events);
- Hire train and supervise student workers;
- Maintain and regularly update the departments website and manage the departments social media presence;
- Contribute to the review and revision of policies procedures services and engagement materials as needed;
- Facilitate large group discussions among students faculty and staff to foster understanding and pluralistic engagement; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications - Bachelors degree from an accredited institution is required;
- Previous experience in student engagement in higher education;
- Demonstrated excellence in developing and implementing programming;
- Ability to maintain keep confidential student information;
- Strong ability to work independently collaboratively and in leadership roles within team settings; and
- Effective communication and presentation skills with the ability to synthesize and convey information clearly in both written and verbal formats.
Preferred Qualifications - Previous experience working with students traditionally underrepresented or at elevated risk of academic interruption or attrition;
- Experience in facilitation or guiding difficult conversations; and
- Experience in Title VI compliance.
