GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a high-level or swim instruction to individuals and or semi-private groups.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general direction of the Aquatics Manager Aquatics Coordinator and Aquatics Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of swim lesson students in a private or semi-private setting. Working often with children/adults with special needs or circumstances.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides instruction in water safety
Provides private swim lesson instruction to children and adults.
Gives an appropriate demonstration of skills
Recognizes trouble areas and works to correct errors.
Provides corrective feedback to participant(s)
Maintains constant alertness to individuals in class.
Maintains a positive attitude and a friendly learning centered environment
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and related duties; specialized training and certification (Star Fish Red Cross or other) as a Swim Lesson Instructor;
AND
B. Preferably 2 years of competitive swimming experience. One (1) year of previous experience as a swim instructor;
OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of water safety practices rules and guidelines; first aid CPR; swimming instruction techniques.

Ability to demonstrate advanced swimming skills; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees the public and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Must be 17 years of age.
Has had previous competitive swimming experience
Has had previous swim lesson experience ie Red Cross Starfish
Must have current swim lesson instructor certification
Must obtain CPR/First Aid certification
Incumbent of the position performs in a climate-controlled environment. OSHA-related hazards may be encountered under controlled conditions. Tasks require a variety of physical activities generally involving muscular strain such as walking standing stooping sitting reaching and hand finger dexterity needed in the performance of essential duties. Mental application utilizes memory for details verbal instructions emotional stability discriminating thinking and creative emotional stability discriminating thinking.
As per Washington City policy and/or procedures a background check and drug screening evaluation will be required for potential new hire candidates prior to an offer of employment. I understand that if I am under the age of 18 I must have my parent or my legal guardian grant their permission for the background check and drug screening test to be performed.
Part-Time
