Job Description

Teachers staff administrators and students all agree that the atmosphere of Assawompset Elementary (AES) encompasses compassion interconnectedness and enthusiastic learning each day. At AES students begin to understand themselves as learners nurtured by teachers and staff that prepare them for the expectations of their middle school years and beyond. Although students only spend two short years in the building the lessons and experiences they share linger much longer evidence of the environment carefully crafted and cultured within its walls. We are seeking a facilitator of learning who enjoys teaching in a student centered learning environment. Our special education teachers assist their students with making the most progress possible. They implement an instructional therapeutic or skill development program for all students and plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Position Objective: This position is accountable for assuming the responsibility for delivering high quality instructional experience through creativity resourcefulness and sound judgment consistent with the curriculum frameworks standards and the rules and regulations of the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District. Responsibilities: Responsible for covering all standards outlined in the MA curriculum frameworks. Responsible for monitoring students understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusting instruction materials or assessments when appropriate Responsible for using innovative approaches and instructional strategies including the effective use of technologies to increase student learning and confidence to learn Responsible for the promotion of high standards and expectations for student achievement. Responsible for the promotion of equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning including implementing specific strategies for students with moderate to severe disabilities Responsible for the creation and implementation of differentiated curricula encompassing core content areas and life skills Responsible for providing equal educational and employment opportunities to all individuals regardless of race color gender age religion gender identity national origin marital status sexual orientation disability or homelessness Performance of other job-related duties as assigned Social/Civic Expectations: Freetown-Lakeville students and staff will: practice responsible citizenship; respect self and others; accept responsibility; and work cooperatively. Required Qualifications: Massachusetts DESE license in Elementary Education SEI Endorsement BA Degree Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience in inclusion based settings at the elementary level Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs Experience delivering reading instruction REPORTS TO: School Principal Salary & Terms of Employment: In accordance with the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District Educators Association contract.
