The primary purpose of the Actuary position is to provide advanced actuarial analyses based upon generally accepted actuarial principles and to provide direction and oversight of more junior level actuaries. The completed analyses will be used by internal business leaders for data-based decision making. These analyses may relate to various areas of actuarial expertise including: Pricing Reserving Reinsurance Corporate Reporting or combinations of these areas. At this level solid communication skills are essential.

Job Responsibilities

• Conducting thorough research and analysis to evaluate potential new lines of business establishing rates and pricing strategies that align with Markels commitment to profitable premium growth and cost-based pricing.

• Investigating new business opportunities as requested providing data-driven insights and recommendations.

• Effectively communicating findings to actuaries and underwriters presenting analyses clearly and responding promptly to requests for alternative structures or assumptions to better represent the risks under review.

• Delivering presentations on actuarial analyses to diverse audiences ensuring both actuarial and non-actuarial stakeholders fully understand results and their implications.

• Proactively identifying and communicating potential actuarial issues to relevant teams.

• Mentoring and serving as a resource for less experienced actuaries fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing.

• Representing the Department on cross-functional teams.

• Supporting corporate goals and principles and communicating those to more junior staff

• Markel Offers hybrid working schedule of 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

Education

• Bachelors Degree preferably in mathematics statistics or other analytical fields

Certification

• ACAS required

Work Experience/Skill Set

• 4 years of actuarial experience

• Project management skills are required especially related to abiding by deadlines management of resources and meeting customer needs.

• Strong communication skills are required as is the ability to think critically and to defend actuarial assumptions decisions and methodologies.

• Ability to balance creativity and sound actuarial judgement

Pay information:

The job title and base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education job-relevant experience training licensure demonstrated competencies geographic location and other national average salary for the Actuary position is $104300 - $173800 with 25% bonus potential.
