About The Role:
Are you passionate about strengthening Kaurna and other First Nations voices and embedding cultural knowledge within local government We are looking for a dedicated First Nations Engagement Leader to drive meaningful engagement and inform reconciliation initiatives across the City of Charles Sturt.
In this role you will lead initiatives that create culturally safe spaces align with the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and build strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Your work will help shape a more inclusive and connected community where First Nations culture is recognised valued and celebrated.
About You:
You will bring energy leadership and a commitment to genuine community engagement to ensure First Nations voices are heard and valued across all areas of Councils work.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Strong cultural leadership skills and the ability to provide strategic advice on First Nations matters.
- Experience building and maintaining meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities organisations and businesses.
- A deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures histories and contemporary issues.
- Experience developing and implementing programs strategies and policies that promote reconciliation and social inclusion.
- The ability to work collaboratively across teams and influence change to support cultural safety and inclusion.
- A strong understanding of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and its relevance at the local government level.
- Experience leading community engagement initiatives and facilitating partnerships that drive positive outcomes for First Nations communities.
- A passion for advocacy and capacity building that strengthens council staff knowledge and supports First Nations people to actively participate in civic life and drive meaningful change.

About Our Team:
Our Community Wellbeing team is dedicated to community development reconciliation diversity equity and inclusion. Through a strengths-based approach we work collaboratively to support cultural learning advocate for First Nations representation and strengthen relationships between Council and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The Detail:
The position is offered on a part-time (0.8 FTE) 12 month fixed-term basis and is classified at Level 6 with a salary range of $108727 to $115956 per annum (pro-rata) Super Annual Leave Loading.
A current unprohibited Working with Children Check and a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check(Police check) must be maintained for the duration of the employment period in this prescribed position.
This role is designated for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants as authorised under Section 56(2) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA).
