THE OPPORTUNITY


Triton is seeking enthusiastic Marine Mammal Observer (MMO) Technicians at all experience levels and to come join a well-established team of environmental professionals!

This position will entail providing environmental monitoring for the construction of a marine terminal at the Woodfibre LNG project (WLNG) near Squamish BC.

This position will appeal to individuals who have a passion for marine biology working outdoors and who thrive working in a fast-paced and dynamic environmental consulting environment.

Responsibilities & tasks include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct shore- and vessel-based marine mammal monitoring utilizing visual and hydroacoustic detection methods;
  • Support environmental monitoring efforts in compliance with regulatory requirements;
  • Capable of working extended hours at a variety of onshore or offshore locations;
  • Successfully complete all Triton and WLNG-specific training programs and orientation sessions;
  • Execute tasks as directed by project leadership;
  • Promote and adhere to a strong safety culture by following all procedures and protocols;
  • Work effectively within a large interdisciplinary team.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS


  • A graduate of a post-secondary degree or technical diploma in biology environmental science or a related discipline is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with marine science is considered an asset.
  • Willingness to learn about marine mammal biology related work.
  • Experience working outdoors reasonable physical fitness and willingness to work in all weather conditions
  • Able to communicate effectively with critical thinking.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as able to work in a team setting environment.
  • Detail-oriented with solid organizational and time-management skills
    Must be willing and able to work a shift rotational schedule
  • Canadian residency or current/valid work permit is required. International applicants without Canadian residency or work permit will not be considered

The following are not required but are considered an asset:

  • A registered professional biologist in BC (.)
  • Experience operating troubleshooting and analyzing data for Ocean Sonics and CR-1 hydrophones (or similar)
  • MED-A2 or MED-A3
  • Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP)
  • Restricted Operator Certificate Maritime (ROC-M)
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1


WORK SCHEDULE


This position entails working a rotational shift schedule which would include working a dayshift and/or nightshift schedule. While subject to potential change a typical shift schedule may be 2 weeks on & 2 weeks off roughly 10-12 hours daily. Applicable overtime pay would be included as per provincial employment legislation.


POSITION TERM:

This is a temporary position targeted to start sometime in the summer of early fall (July August September) and ending approximately February 2026.


There is potential to come aboard full-time permanent subsequent to the contract end date for other Triton projects.

COMPENSATON


The compensation is dependent upon candidate experience and qualifications with a range from $26 dollars per hour to $34 per hour.
