Job Description

I-State Truck Centers Billings Montana location is seeking a skilled Body Shop Estimator to join our heavy-duty diesel truck body shop team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assessing vehicle damage preparing accurate repair estimates and coordinating with customers insurance companies and technicians to ensure high-quality repairs and exceptional customer service. This role requires expertise in heavy-duty truck repair strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Damage Assessment: Inspect heavy-duty diesel trucks and related equipment to evaluate collision or operational damage identifying all necessary repairs to restore vehicles to pre-loss condition.
  • Estimate Preparation: Prepare detailed and accurate repair estimates using industry-standard software (e.g. Audatex CCC ONE or Mitchell) including parts labor and materials costs specific to heavy-duty diesel trucks.
  • Customer Interaction: Communicate with customers to explain repair processes estimate costs and timelines ensuring transparency and addressing any concerns promptly.
  • Insurance Coordination: Collaborate with insurance adjusters to negotiate repair costs submit estimates and secure approvals for repairs ensuring compliance with insurance requirements.
  • Shop Coordination: Work closely with body shop technicians to verify repair feasibility recommend repair methods and ensure estimates align with shop capabilities and industry standards.
  • Parts Sourcing: Identify and source appropriate parts for heavy-duty diesel trucks coordinating with suppliers to ensure availability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of estimates repair orders and customer communications ensuring all documentation complies with company and regulatory standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Review completed repairs to ensure they meet quality standards and align with the original estimate.
  • Stay Updated: Keep abreast of industry trends repair techniques and advancements in heavy-duty diesel truck technology to provide accurate and competitive estimates.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a body shop estimator preferably in a heavy-duty diesel truck or commercial vehicle repair environment.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of heavy-duty diesel truck systems including frames suspensions and body components as well as collision repair techniques.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with estimating software (e.g. Audatex CCC ONE Mitchell) and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certifications: I-CAR or ASE certifications in collision repair or estimating preferred but not required.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with customers insurance adjusters and team members effectively.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to produce precise estimates and identify all necessary repairs to ensure quality and cost accuracy.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to assess complex damage and recommend effective repair solutions.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment coordinating with technicians parts suppliers and management.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational or technical training in automotive or heavy-duty vehicle repair preferred.

Work Environment

  • Location: On-site at our heavy-duty diesel truck body shop.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to walk stand and inspect vehicles for extended periods; occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Schedule: Full-time Monday through Friday with occasional overtime as needed to meet shop demands.
