Job Description

We are seeking experienced Medical Support Technicians (Sterile Processing) to support the VA Palo Alto Health Care System by performing critical sterile processing and medical supply distribution functions. This role ensures the availability of sterile and consumable supplies for wards clinics and operating rooms through expert-level inventory management aseptic technique and logistics. You will bring at least 2 years of recent sterile processing experience in a hospital setting and must meet or exceed national standards of care for medical supply technicians.

**Note: you will be required to present documentation of necessary certifications and training when your credentials are presented to VFT LLC.

**Note: you will be required to sign a Letter of Commitment for the start date commitment of time etc.

WORKSITE: V.A. Palo Alto Health Care System 3801 Miranda Avenue Palo Alto CA 94304

WORK SCHEDULE: 1-year contract beginning 08/01/2025 multiple 8-hour shifts available; 24/7 operations. Typical shift windows include:

  • 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

  • 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

  • 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

  • 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM

  • 11:30 AM - 8:00 PM

  • 12:30 PM - 9:00 PM

  • 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM

  • 12:00 AM - 8:30 AM

Schedules are provided 2-4 weeks in advance and may change based on patient care needs. No on-call required. Holiday and overtime authorized by COR only.

PAY RATE: $29/hour

WHAT YOULL DO:

  • Conduct end-to-end sterile processing of reusable medical equipment (RME) including decontamination inspection assembly sterilization and storage in accordance with VA policies and national standards (AAMI AORN CDC)

  • Manage inventory levels using automated systems (e.g. Omnicell Pyxis) ensuring availability of high-use and critical supplies across wards ORs and specialty clinics

  • Coordinate timely receipt tracking and replenishment of consumable and sterile supplies verifying expiration dates and ensuring compliance with aseptic and infection control principles

  • Respond promptly to STAT and emergent service requests from clinical staff ensuring uninterrupted patient care support during procedures and surgeries

  • Prepare and deliver custom case carts procedure trays and specialty kits collaborating closely with nursing and surgical teams to anticipate and fulfill clinical needs

  • Maintain meticulous documentation of sterilization cycles quality control checks and lot tracking in accordance with Joint Commission and VA audit standards

WHAT YOULL BRING:

  • A minimum of 2 years of recent full-time experience in a sterile processing or medical supply technician role preferably within a hospital or VA/DoD medical facility

  • Certified Medical Supply Technician

  • Knowledge of automated supply tracking systems point-of-use inventory systems and barcode scanning technology

  • Proficiency in applying aseptic technique understanding infection prevention protocols and complying with ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards

  • Strong communication teamwork and customer service skills with the ability to interface professionally with clinical personnel across multiple departments

  • Fluency in English with the ability to read and understand detailed instructions regulatory guidelines and supply chain documentation
