Nursing Faculty/Skills and Simulation Lab Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for providing a high quality and engaging instruction and academic mentoring to students; for developing assessing and assuring excellent pedagogy and curriculum design both within the discipline and in contributions to the Liberal Arts core program; for promoting student achievement and academic integrity on behalf of the University; and for collaboration with support services provided through units such as the Adawe Center and for collaboration with support services provided through campus units. Academic program development for program currency growth retention and recruitment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (provide list of items which are essential to effective outcomes in this role):

• Teaching Load: 10 courses per year (with the potential addition of two directed studies or small courses*). Teach a combination of courses in the discipline (both for students majoring in the discipline and for students meeting Breadth Area (general education) requirements) interdisciplinary and/or team-taught courses and courses approved as part of the Liberal Arts core program. This combination of courses is to be determined in collaboration among the School Dean Department Chair and individual faculty according to unit and university requirements.
• Teaching Standards: Maintain a high standard in classroom teaching through engaging and effective pedagogy exhibiting awareness and understanding of best practices in post secondary education through application in the classroom and remaining current with issues curriculum and classroom approaches in both the liberal arts and the candidates academic discipline.
• Advising: Attend to student needs and concerns and work with each students advising team members to identify and develop opportunities for each individual learner. Collaborate as needed in scheduling courses addressing academic concerns and supporting efforts in retention.
• Scholarship: Maintain awareness of contemporary trends and evolving knowledge within ones academic discipline and in the liberal arts through research creative work writing conference attendance (either virtually or at designated location) public presentations (in-person and virtually) and other involvement in the regional and national community of higher education professionals
• Service:
  -Participate with faculty in governance issues related to curriculum and course development and revisions including review of adjunct syllabi as assigned. Collaborate as needed in scheduling courses and addressing academic concerns (such as but not limited to serving on an academic grievance committee)
  -Contribute to the residential needs and student life at OU by voluntarily serving as advisor to student organizations regularly attending Campus events (EX: Spirit Life activities) serving on student grievance (or development) committees and providing other engaged support to the Campus environment and life as directed by the Dean.
  -Contribute to recruitment and retention efforts for campus growth and sustainability
  -Participate in the interviewing process orientation mentoring and development of new faculty as needed.
  -Participate in Campus and University-wide governance in responding to and engaging in dialogue related to academic issues across the university.
  -Participate in Campus and University-wide committee work including on-going committees program assessments task-oriented committees or task forces and other projects or committees as requested
• Assessment: Maintain effective curricula through participation in university-wide assessment processes.

JOB SUMMARY:The Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Lab Coordinator is a 12-month faculty position responsible for the coordination and operation of the Nursing Skills and Simulation Labs. The coordinator collaborates with the BSN Program Director Clinical and Practicum Coordinator Nursing faculty and the Director of Nursing to ensure safe and effective use of the simulation lab and skills lab facilities and maintenance of OSHA standards with appropriate disposal of sharps and hazardous waste. The position provides expertise in lab and simulation integration methods and technologies and supports the evidence-based educational experiences for learners. The coordinator teaches prelicensure courses as designated by the BSN Program Director and the Director of Nursing with primary responsibility for the oversight of the Skills and Simulation labs and associated activities including equipment and supply utilization.

Skills and Simulation Lab Coordinator

• Collaborates and coordinates with the BSN Program Director Nursing faculty and others as appropriate to plan design organize implement and evaluate current practice standards skills lab and simulation lab activities to meet requirements of the curriculum and student progression needs.
• Collaboratively plans and implements Skills and Simulation lab activities with opportunities for the development of critical thinking decision-making and decisional analysis skills to promote clinical competency.
• Ensures safety and OSHA standards are maintained in the labs including disposal of sharps and hazardous waste. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current nursing lab safety standards and informs program leadership of changes in safety standards.
• Maintains adequate skills and simulation lab supply PAR levels by regular monitoring and coordinating with program leadership to order and re-stock needed supplies.
• Ensures lab equipment is good working order and simulation manikins are well maintained. Coordinates with vendors to maintain appropriate warranties.
• Collaborates with Nursing faculty to schedule lab activities; maintains a master schedule of scheduled activities and shares with Nursing leadership and faculty.
• Functions as a resource for Nursing faculty in the use of the Skills and Simulation lab and collaborates for use of the labs to provide student remediation.
• Provides Skills and Simulation lab orientation to Nursing faculty and students regarding the policies procedures and utilization of the Skills and Simulation labs.
• Conducts lab tours as requested by Nursing program leadership for internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain high ethical standards in managing resources Skills and Simulation lab resources.
• Promote the mission vision and values of Ottawa University as well as the goals and program outcomes of Ottawa University Nursing.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: (education based on essential job duties and requirements consistent with business necessity):
Minimum BSN with MSN in process. MSN Degree preferred. Licensure: current license as Registered Nurse in Kansas and Missouri

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: (experience based on requirements in role and are consistent with business necessity)
3-5 years related work experience. Nursing Education preferred.
