This is an on-call position which means it is a part-time hourly role. This position will work no more than 39 hours per week. The pay range for this position $28.87 - $44.75/hour. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $28.87 - $36.81/hour. This position is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denvers 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. Oncall positions may have routine or variable work schedules.
This position is based at the Denver Mountain Parks headquarters in Morrison schedule is typically Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. 3:30 p.m. with occasional evenings weekends and or/holidays will be required for special events or operational needs. Schedules are subject to change based on seasonal needs.
Denver Parks and Recreation is seeking Resource Stewardship Crew Lead to support the Denver Mountain Parks Natural Resources program. Established over a century ago in 1912 the Denver Mountain Parks consists of 14000 acres of parks and open space across four counties outside of Denvers municipal boundary. The Mountain Parks system boasts a wide array of parks historic structures bison herds the world-famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre Buffalo Bills grave and museum water resources wildlife habitat trails and a variety of recreational activities ranging from the alpine environment of Mount Blue Sky to the plains ecosystem of Daniels Park.
This position will support the Denver Mountain Parks Forestry and Natural Resources Program in the areas of bison conservation forest health and wildfire mitigation youth and community engagement grassland restoration weeds management green workforce and a variety of related natural resource projects. The position will work closely with existing partners and establish new partnerships. We are seeking a candidate who can combine community collaboration with field-based skills and who can synthesize elements of both for a variety of audiences.
Job duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Develop green workforce youth corps projects for forestry and fire mitigation in Denver Mountain Parks coordinate youth crews and oversee field-based projects
Assist with bison conservation including handling and feeding
Support grassland restoration including mechanical removal of woody encroachment herbicide application seeding and dung beetle reintroduction
Conduct fire mitigation and forest health projects including tree cutting and burning slash piles
Foster organizational and community partnerships
Collaborate on projects and initiatives that engage Denver youth
Develop and lead educational programs for a variety of audiences both on- and off-site.
Support a range of related natural resource projects
Work outdoors in various weather and environmental conditions
Operate tools and equipment including a chainsaws brush cutters OHVs seed drills masticators boom sprayers skid steers wood chippers and related equipment.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience skills and characteristics:
At least one year of experience operating a chain saw in a field-based environment
Experience utilizing forestry equipment
Red carded as a Basic Wildland Firefighter (S-130/190)
Experience handling and working with bison with an understanding of their basic behavior and biology
Experience leading educational programs and/or working with youth groups
Experience working in a parks open space or natural resource management
Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED HiSET or TASC Certificate
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience as a member of a crew performing a wide variety of construction maintenance and repair work
Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
Licensure: Requires a valid Drivers License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
