Job Description

Ivy tech Evansville seeks a Coordinator of Veteran Affairs to work in the Financial Aid office on the Evansville IN campus. This role provides services to students receiving G.I. Bill Educational Benefits and Vocational Rehabilitation benefits in order to meet the requirements of the Code of Regulations Title 38 Part 21 from the Department of Veterans Administration (DVA). The primary function is to coordinate services to students receiving benefits and report enrollment and application information to the DVA and the SAA

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a strong customer service and/or student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability adaptability strong problem solving and desire to identify and support student success.

  • Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued and supported.
  • Go beyond the easiest or surface answer for a student and get to the root cause of the problem question or issue to solve it as quickly and professionally as possible.
  • Coordinate delivery of services to all incoming and current veterans receiving benefits as required in the Code of Regulations Title 38 Section 21.
  • Perform all certification functions required by the DVA. Ensure the receipt of benefits while veterans are attending the college.
  • Ensure all data/forms are completed accurately and submitted to the proper government agency (VA).
  • Resolve payment problems and ensure that special needs such as employment housing and referrals are met.
  • Brief new students regarding college policies and VA regulations.
  • Establish procedures with directives from the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) and the State Approving Agency (SAA).
  • Coordinate with the DVA and SAA on a regular basis to ensure compliance and consistency.
  • Report necessary data to the DVA including all student enrollment certifications tracking and reporting any changes to student enrollment to ensure compliance with all appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that supervisor and college officials are apprised at all times of issues and concerns within the VA office.
  • Provide general financial aid counseling to VA students and referred CDV students.
  • Provide basic enrollment services for new VA students.
  • Manage record keeping policies and procedures for accurate tracking of GI Bill recipients.
  • Serve as an advocate for the development of efficient processes for students departing or returning from deployment or other military duty.
  • Increase access for opportunities for learning success referral sources for VA students.
  • Serve as an advisor for the Student Veterans Association.
  • Provide briefings for new students through an interview process and assist with college and VA paperwork and refer students to academic advisors and/or other services on and off campus.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an advocate for veterans and military service personnel and serve as a subject matter expert.
  • Serve as an advocate for the development of statewide policies for absences due to military duty and payment arrangements.
  • Develop methods to gather data on veteran and military service personnel status. Analyze and make recommendations to appropriate campus organizations based on those findings.
  • Develop methods to identify the needs of veteran and military service personnel student population and create programs to address those needs.
  • Analyze existing campus policies and procedures relating to veteran and military service personnel students and coordinate changes and updates as required.
  • Coordinate with Student Life and Development to address the social needs of VA students.

Hiring Range:

  • $42000 - $48000 annually based on experience

Work Hours:

  • Typical business work hours may be adjusted during peak times.
