The role
The Workspace Engineering team part of the Software Engineering Services (SES) function at G-Research develops cutting-edge remote development capabilities. Hosted in Kubernetes these solutions provide our engineers and quantitative researchers with reliable repeatable and high-performance Linux environments.
The ideal candidate will bring strong software engineering experience combined with a solid understanding of managing large-scale infrastructure and complex tooling ecosystems. Youll be an enthusiastic developer with a keen interest in technologies such as Kubernetes and remote development workflows a commitment to best practices and a drive for continuous self-learning.
Were seeking someone with a broad technical skill set who is adaptable and excited to work across a range of engineering challenges. You should be comfortable applying modern tools and approaches to solve complex problems and eager to contribute to a fast-paced evolving environment.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Building stable and well-designed solutions which make it easy for customers to use our developer environments
Understanding what makes a great end user experience for our customers and building towards that
Recommending and implementing continuous improvements to platform and delivery pipelines
Understanding our platforms security requirements and designing and building features and capabilities to protect our developer environment
Being a product evangelist liaising with users to gather feedback and understand their workflows providing support and working on feature requests
Who are we looking for
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
Experience with GO development or a strong interest in developing expertise including designing building and optimising applications.
Deep working knowledge of Linux operating systems
Experience working with Kubernetes and containers
Exposure to general development practices such as source code management and binary and dependency management using tools such as Git GitHub and Artifactory
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling across the full development lifecycle using tools such as Jenkins Bamboo or ArgoCD
A strong desire to learn and grow through both self-driven exploration of new technologies and by engaging with users across diverse teams to understand needs and deliver impactful solutions
The following skills and experience is beneficial but not a requirement:
Building or maintaining other remote development systems
Experience with Kubernetes administration such as maintaining Kubernetes clusters
Use of operational or runtime tools and practices including monitoring and logging with systemssuch as Prometheus and Grafana
Experience communicating strategy and socialising change to a wide and disparate audience
