Chevron is accepting online applications for the position Tax Counsel / Senior Tax Counsel through November 7th 2025 at 11:59 p.m. (CST).

The person serving in the Tax Counsel / Senior Tax Counsel position will provide tax planning advice and support on a wide variety of U.S. state and local tax matters affecting Chevrons businesses and will report to a General Manager in Chevrons State Tax Legal group.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Providing tax planning advice and support for various of Chevrons upstream downstream and midstream businesses with a primary focus on state and local taxation.

  • Conduct in-depth tax research and analysis in support of the companys state and local tax positions.

  • Advising management and relevant stakeholders of the state and local tax implications of proposed business transactions and activities.

  • Managing state and local tax controversies including filing formal protests representing the company in administrative hearings and negotiating settlements.

  • Monitoring state and local legislative and regulatory developments that impact Chevrons businesses.

An extensive understanding of state and local tax laws is a necessity as are excellent verbal and written communication skills tax research skills and the ability to work collaboratively with peers and varied groups of stakeholders.

Knowledge and experience with tax and commercial oil and gas operations marketing and trading activities new energies are relevant to and are desired attributes as is knowledge and experience with tax accounting for direct and indirect taxes.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris doctorate

  • Minimum 6 years of U.S. state and local tax planning experience

  • Bar admission

Preferred Qualifications

  • LL.M. or CPA

Relocation Options:

Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.

International Considerations:

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
