The Digital Design and Delivery Division (3D) is at the forefront of this effort applying human-centered design agile methodology and modern data practices to improve service quality and value.
As part of this transformation the province seeks up to three (3) Digital Architects Data to support service innovation and digital transformation projects. These professionals will join cross-functional teams to help define design and deliver modern digital services across the GoA.
Role OverviewThe Digital Architect Data provides architectural leadership and strategic guidance for data-intensive digital services. Working closely with product owners and multidisciplinary teams the architect is responsible for developing and implementing scalable maintainable and user-centric solution architectures that align with GoAs digital vision and technical standards.
Key Responsibilities Architecture & Solution DesignLead the design of solution architectures for digital services
Develop architectural plans based on citizen-centered design and agile delivery principles
Uncover system context and dependencies to support architecture decisions
Prototype and validate solution feasibility
Provide solution designs aligned to GoAs standards and iterative delivery models
Assess risks and impacts related to architecture decisions
Support product teams in implementing digital solutions
Guide integration strategies system boundaries and interactions
Promote reuse of existing components and shared services
Review and contribute to codebase as needed
Mentor and coach team members
Ensure tactical decisions align with the long-term architecture
Contribute to the overarching architecture vision and best practices
Develop and share documentation and architecture deliverables (e.g. diagrams presentations)
Advocate for service quality scalability and maintainability
Participate in the evolution of architectural standards and tools
Education:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field (equivalencies may be considered)
Experience:
8 years as a Data Architect Software Architect or Senior Data Engineer
5 years leading cross-functional agile teams
5 years leading solution architecture design and implementation
4 years leading domain modeling and database schema design
5 years conveying complex technical concepts to varied audiences
Aligning data architecture with organizational strategy (3 years)
Applying data governance principles (3 years)
Secure development practices and access management (4 years)
Driving data interoperability across platforms (2 years)
Modernizing legacy systems (5 years)
Working with containers orchestration and infrastructure-as-code (2 years)
Experience with public sector digital service frameworks (2 years)
Experience with relational and non-relational databases (5 years)
Data analytics solution design (4 years)
Location: Primarily remote (occasional in-person sessions in Edmonton)
Client: Government of Alberta

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in Canada
Duration: Initial contract with potential extensions (up to 24 months)
Hours: Monday Friday 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM (Alberta Time)
Security Clearance: Criminal record check required; enhanced security clearance may be required
Full Time
