Job Summary / Responsibilities:
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for preparing and performing ultrasound examinations on patients ensuring high-quality imaging for diagnostic purposes. The position requires collaboration with physicians to carry out and interpret diagnostic procedures.
Typical Physical Demands:
- Essential Functions:
Walking twisting finger dexterity vision hearing speaking repetitive arm and hand movements reaching above and at shoulder level prolonged gripping. - Continuous:
Sitting reaching below shoulder level. - Frequent:
Standing stooping/bending pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. - Occasional:
Kneeling climbing stairs squatting lifting and carrying 10 20 pounds. - Equipment Used:
Ultrasound machines and computer systems.
Typical Working Conditions:
- The role is primarily indoors with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
- Must have flexibility to provide on-call coverage during evenings nights weekends and holidays.
Education / Certification and Licensure:
- Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Ultrasound Technology program or an approved alternative program (as determined by the department) or a registered Radiologic Technologist with at least two (2) years of supervised ultrasound training.
- ARDMS registration in both Abdomen and OB/GYN is required. Candidates with only one certification must obtain the second within 24 months of hire.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/HCP) certification is required.
Experience:
- Recent experience in a diagnostic medical sonographer role within an acute healthcare setting is preferred.
