Job Description:

• Utilize the Information System to receive samples order tests answer questions from nurses and physicians document quality control activities and produce reports required to perform job tasks.
• Confirms accuracy of patient sample identification prior to performing processes; evaluates specimen quality and identifies when unacceptable. Documents information concerning quality of specimen.
• Prepares sections of human tissue for immediate examination using rapid tissue processing and frozen section technique to freeze cut mount and stain tissue specimens received from surgery.
• Operates tissue processing equipment to fix dehydrate and infiltrate with wax tissue specimens to be preserved for study by Pathologist.
• Performs tissue sectioning using microtome prepares slides stains and coverslips.
• Performs special and immunohistochemical stains and procedures as necessary.
• Performs gross examination on designated specimens using canned comments under the direction of a Pathologist.
• Maintains filing system and records for slides blocks and tissues.
• Performs daily preventative maintenance of equipment.
