Overview
The Cath Lab Staff plays a crucial role in the cardiovascular department of a healthcare organization particularly in enhancing patient outcomes during catheterization procedures. Working under the supervision of cardiologists and interventional radiologists the Cath Lab Staff is responsible for assisting in a variety of diagnostic and interventional procedures ranging from angiograms to stent placements. Their expertise in operating specific cath lab equipment while ensuring the highest standards of patient safety is paramount. The overall impact of this role extends beyond the immediate patient interactions as it contributes to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the cardiology team. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in catheterization procedures under the guidance of physicians.
- Prepare and maintain cath lab equipment and supplies.
- Monitor patient vitals and respond to any abnormalities.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and health regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of patient procedures and outcomes.
- Support patients pre and post-procedure with education and care.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to facilitate smooth operations.
- Conduct equipment checks for functionality before procedures.
- Administer medications as directed by the supervising physician.
- Prepare and assist during emergency situations within the lab.
- Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions.
- Educate patients on cath lab processes and post-operative care.
- Assist in troubleshooting equipment issues during procedures.
- Perform room turnover and maintain cleanliness standards.
- Document patient information accurately in medical records.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Nursing or Radiologic Technology.
- Valid nursing or radiologic technician license.
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in a cath lab setting.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.
- Proficiency in using cardiac catheterization equipment.
- Strong understanding of sterile techniques and infection control measures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and education.
- Understanding of quality assurance and patient safety practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Flexibility to work on-call or irregular hours as needed.
