AECOM is actively seeking an experienced Senior Archaeologist to join our Cultural Resources practice. This position will report to the Pacific Northwest Archaeology Group Director and will support the coordination with AECOMs cultural resources teams operating out of our Portland OR and/or Seattle WA offices. This is a full-time hybrid role.
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- The Senior Archaeologist may serve as a Field Director or Principal Investigator meeting the Secretary of the Interiors Professional Qualification Standards.
- Managing projects with large-scale field efforts (survey testing data recovery and monitoring) and intensive schedules
- Managing and executing archival research technical report writing state and federal archaeological permitting data collection and compilation and/or GIS mapping.
- Working thoughtfully and efficiently both independently and as part of a larger cultural resources team.
- Operating as primary author or senior reviewer as appropriate.
- Supervising personnel in the field office and laboratory as needed.
- Performing project management duties such as forecasting tracking accounting updates invoicing progress reports and scheduling.
- Reviewing contracts for understanding of scope fee schedule and deliverables and all other contractual obligations
- Developing work breakdown structure for control and integrity of work to be performed as and defined by the contract.
- Monitoring and analyzing project costs commitments accruals and changes and taking corrective action where necessary
- Liaising and developing positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act.
- Organizing data in an efficient and clear manner.
- Handling multiple tasks and communicating priorities to the Cultural Resources Regional Lead.
- Operating as primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies on projects as needed
- Performing client management duties such as recurring status meetings milestone check ins and day-to-day interfacing.
- Innovation and a problem solving.
- Supporting career development of individuals in the practice.
- Successfully preparing competitive proposals.
- Participating in interviews with large or small teams for a variety of clients.
- Contributing to growth of practice through business development.

Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS in Anthropology Archaeology History or a closely related field.
- 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology and cultural resources management.
- Must be willing to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout the Pacific Northwest.
- Current valid drivers license is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree or PhD in Anthropology Archaeology History or a closely related field preferred.
- 10 years of experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology and cultural resources management.
- 3 years of experience in a supervisory capacity in the field or in the office.
- Meets the Secretary of Interiors professional qualification standards in archaeology.
- Relevant field experience in the Pacific Northwest.
- Experience with implementing Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
- Experience with career development of junior and mid-level archaeologists.
- Advanced knowledge in one or more specialty scientific areas (e.g. lithic or faunal analysis; osteology; historical archaeology)
- Demonstration of excellent technical writing skills as well as verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience supervising large crews and/or multiple crews on a variety of project types and sizes regions and agencies.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts and planners.
- Proven ability to lead proposals and win work.
- Knowledge of regional and local regulations.
