The District Messenger plays a vital role in maintaining the efficiency and connectivity of Holyoke Public Schools by ensuring the timely pickup and delivery of inter-school mail packages publications and official documents. In addition to mail duties this role supports the general upkeep of district office areas and assists the Facilities Department as needed.
Mail Services:
Pick up and deliver all inter-school mail publications packages and materials to and from all district schools and departments.
Sort and distribute incoming mail and packages received at central locations.
Pick up mail and deliveries for external drop-off as directed by the Superintendent or designee.
Deliver notices agendas and documents related to School Committee meetings.
Municipal Delivery:
Pick up and deliver documents and packages to other municipal offices throughout the City of Holyoke.
Facilities Support & Maintenance:
Provide custodial support by vacuuming all carpets cleaning all breakroom floors monthly deep cleaining and annual carpet extraction in district offices at 57 Suffolk Street including but not limited to:
Student Services
Family Engagement Office
Entire third floor office areas
Set out and return all recycling bins for city collection on designated pickup days.
Provide general support to the Facilities Department at 728 Main Street including errands deliveries and other assigned tasks.
General Responsibilities:
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive documents and information.
Safely operate a district vehicle for transporting materials.
Complete other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Massachusetts drivers license and a clean driving record.
Ability to lift carry and move items up to 50 pounds.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally with staff and the public.
Ability to work independently and follow instructions with minimal supervision.
Prior experience in mail delivery custodial work or facilities support is preferred but not required.
Work is performed both indoors (office settings) and outdoors (travel between locations).
Regular physical activity including walking lifting up to 50lbs. and carrying.
Exposure to varying weather conditions during delivery activities.
