The Wesleyan University Health Services department includes the Davison Health Center Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and WesWell (Health Education.) The Health Center provides an array of clinical services for the treatment of illnesses and injuries as well as wellness and disease prevention. Health Services provides medical care to approximately 50 students a day with an average of 7500 visits in an academic year. Services are available six days per week and a physician is on-call 24/7 while classes are in session.
Reporting to the Director of Health Services the Nurse Manager partners with clinical leadership to provide clinical management to the nursing and medical assistant staff. The Nurse Manager is also responsible for ensuring compliance with clinical orders and established clinical practice guidelines. This position is required to maintain a current Registered Nurse license.
The Nursing Manager ensures the delivery of high-quality evidence-based care to students and contributes to a campus culture of wellness inclusion and health equity.
This position is a full-time year-round position with some Saturday requirements.
Responsibilities include:
Clinical Leadership and Administration
Provide supervisory oversight for the clinical staff including providing coaching training mentoring and managing performance.
Manage and oversee the hiring process for clinical staff.
Provide consultation to the clinical staff.
Assist the Medical Director with the development of necessary policies with respect to campus communication initiatives.
Manage and oversee all medical supply inventory and medication purchasing. Ensure regulation compliance of controlled substances. Routinely monitor stock for expiration dates low supply and missing inventory.
Manage and oversee University partnerships that require clinical support such as the Study Abroad and Office of International Student Affairs.
Manage city and state licensure requirements as well as DEA OSHA and DPH compliance.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Lead and participate in staff meetings as applicable.
Monitor and analyze nursing-related data and trends; prepare reports for leadership as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Direct Patient Care:
Assess triage and prepare patients for their clinical appointments which can include but is not limited to obtaining and reviewing a full medical history performing phlebotomy taking vital signs performing in office lab testing and other tasks as requested by the rendering clinician.
Provide nurse treatment and patient education for simple ailments such as small burns cuts and bug bites.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments and provide injection teaching to students who self-inject medications.
Assess/triage sick patients to appropriate provider via telephone secure message and walk-in requests.
Manage and oversee all immunization compliance and services including new student requirements TB screening testing reporting etc. Complete all compliance activities including utilizing the CT State Vaccine Registry (CT Wiz).
Other Duties as assigned.
Currently licensed in the State of CT as a Registered Nurse.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Must have at least 5 years of experience working in a clinical setting.
Must have at least 2 years in a clinical supervisory role or related experience.
Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact collegially with individuals of different backgrounds.
Proficiency with electronic health records and standard office software.
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with adolescent/young adult health concerns including sexual health mental health and immunization compliance.
Knowledge of relevant public health regulations and standards (e.g. FERPA HIPAA CLIA OSHA).
Understanding of nursing standards infection control and relevant regulations (e.g. HIPAA OSHA DPH compliance.)
Experience working in college health primary care or ambulatory care setting.
Advanced knowledge of Electronic Health Record (EHR) Systems.
