Description

Are you an experienced detail-oriented professional with expertise in facility mechanical systems and a strong commitment to building sustainable and reliable systems and operational excellence We are seeking a knowledgeable collaborative and proactive individual to oversee the quality assurance quality control and commissioning aspects of mechanical systems across a range of facility lifecycle and new construction projects. In this role youll provide technical leadership and be actively involved in the project planning design and execution phases to ensure the intended outcomes and operational needs of various stakeholders are met and can be successfully executed by the project delivery team. This position will also complete internal design and project management services for projects in collaboration with the operations and project delivery team. From initial planning through to final commissioning your oversight and technical expertise will ensure that County facility mechanical systems perform as intended and meets design and operational standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise in mechanical design specifications quality assurance and commissioning to support project teams throughout all phases of the project lifecycle
  • Review mechanical drawings submittals and specifications for compliance and alignment with Strathcona County design and construction standards. While the primary focus is on mechanical systems other disciplines will be supplemented as required
  • Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control plans procedures and checklists for mechanical and other building systems
  • Identify document and resolve quality issues and project deficiencies ensuring corrective actions are taken
  • Coordinate with Strathcona County teams external contractors and consultants to maintain quality standards
  • Provide technical expertise in mechanical design and specifications quality and commissioning to project teams
  • Maintain and manage project quality documentation test reports and records
  • Conduct regular visit to project sites to check progress ensure quality and contract compliance
  • During the planning process collaborate with Strathcona County teams to identify and prioritize facility lifecycle needs verify and validate mechanical design and performance specifications and provide input on project costing and estimating
  • Review opportunities to improve building mechanical system efficiency or introduce systems and equipment that will improve overall efficiency sustainability and reduce long term operating costs
  • Work collaboratively with other Strathcona County teams to complete risk assessments during the planning process to ensure funding is allocated appropriately
  • Provide design services for minor mechanical projects and work closely with external consultants to complete major mechanical designs
  • Prepare project cost estimates preliminary plans and related documents
  • Develop and oversee mechanical commissioning plans and schedules
  • Lead pre-functional and functional performance testing of mechanical systems
  • Oversee project execution by monitoring progress ensuring QA/QC and commissioning milestones are achieved in alignment with project requirements
  • Facilitate stakeholder communication by managing engagement with owners contractors and engineers participating in site meetings and supporting project procurement documentation and closeout activities

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelors degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • A Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) or a Professional Engineer () with the Association of Professional Engineers Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • 5 years of experience in QA/QC commissioning and mechanical project management
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems in institutional commercial recreational or industrial buildings
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE LEED SMACNA NFPA and relevant building codes
  • Experience with commissioning procedures performance testing and quality audits
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software
  • Excellent problem-solving communication and leadership skills


Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers licence and submission of a 5-year Drivers Abstract with less than 7 demerits
