We are seeking a passionate highly organized and detail-oriented People Manager to join our News Operations team. You will have a generalist background in broadcasting/streaming and be responsible for oversight of a large team of employees and edit suites across the Toronto Broadcast Centre. Your team supports content producers in News Entertainment Factual and Sports.
You will play a crucial role in creating an engaging high-performing and safe work environment for our employees and championing our culture. The role requires a balance between being an advocate for employees and aligning HR practices with the organizations strategic objectives.
You will recommend cost-effective time management solutions and implement reliable workflows in order to fulfill all the technical requirements of news production. You will constantly look for improvement with our teams and new processes. You will be expected to work unscheduled overtime when it is deemed necessary.
Main responsibilities and impact:
Work closely and coordinate with editorial managers and staff to implement plans and changes within the editing and graphics requirement needs in News Production Services
Collaborate with CBC news change management and continuous improvement teams to provide workflow and efficiency solutions
Navigate editorial requests and requirements design workflows around special projects and mentor editing crafts
Introduce and implement departmental departmental best practices workflows and procedures
Conducting staff performance reviews and providing support counseling and motivation for career development
Recruit hire and onboard new team members
Manage and resolve conflicts
Manage staff readiness and succession planning based on all available knowledge around impending assignments new programming and changing technology and software
Oversee team budget and forecasting
Provide updates and progress reports to senior management
Relationship types:
Leads and mentors direct team reports
Collaboration with Regional Managers
Works in tandem with APS Supervisors and CMG Supervisors
Liaise with Editorial Leadership
Working Conditions:
Typical schedule: Monday to Friday 9-5

Qualifications Experience and Skills:
Education:
University degree or related experience.
Experience (relevant to the role):
4 years of experience in a similar role.
Knowledge and Skills:
Strategic thinker and solution oriented change management leader.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills along with a high level of influence and persuasion to lead and manage a diverse group of creative individuals.
Passion for following the latest in innovative technology.
In-depth working knowledge of TV Production video editing tools such as AVID Media Composer AVID Media Central and Adobe Premiere Graphics solutions and related production methods.
Familiarity with file-based workflows.
A genuine interest in News and Current Affairs.
Strong organizational skills.
Proven ability to lead and manage a diverse group of creative individuals in a Unionized environment.
Skilled at communicating with vendors and clients with regard to purchasing technical issues and support.
Familiarity with Television and Radio production systems implementation of new technology and ability to coordinate system upgrades.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate technical ideas into a business context when presenting a rationale for improvements or changes.
Provide updates and progress reports to management.
Strong attention to detail.
The ability to speak French is considered an asset.
