Gunsmith

Turners Outdoorsman is looking for a seasoned Gunsmith. The Gunsmiths responsibilities include safely test-firing guns. The Gunsmith will need to file and polish gun components without causing damage. The Gunsmith should be able to safely use various gunsmithing tools as well as demonstrate excellent mechanical woodworking am metalworking skills.

Essential Functions

• Maintaining accurate records of the nature of the work done on customers guns as well as customers gun details such as gun serial number gun type caliber and gauge
• Inspecting customers guns to identify any mechanical problems
• Designing and constructing guns according to customers specifications
• Modifying or adapting factory-made guns to customers specifications
• Repairing damaged gun components and fixing gun malfunctions
• Replacing the barrels on existing rifles to change the caliber correct accuracy problems alter the overall rifle weight or provide a customized look
• Restoring old dilapidated or antique guns
• Attaching optical sights pistol grips or recoil pads to various guns

Physical Requirements

• Responsible for loading/unloading trucks lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance
• Must be able to use both hands when handling a firearm
• Must be able to use a computer proficiently and grasp instruction to new software programs
• Must be able to stand sit bend and lift throughout the course of a scheduled shift

Qualifications

• Highschool graduate or GED Certificate
• Completion of an accredited gunsmith training program
• Hunting or shooting sports knowledge preferred
• Legally eligible to work in a firearms environment
• Sound knowledge of gun control laws and gun safety
• The ability to interpret blueprints for guns
• Strong mechanical woodworking metalworking skills
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional communication and customer service skills

Hours

• Hours- varied- OT may be required
• Requests for time off may or may not be granted during black-out periods
