Job Overview:
A leading technology company in California is seeking an experienced Optical Mechanical Engineer to join their R&D team. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the design development testing and production of next-generation metrology products involving lasers polarizing optics fiber optics precision mechanics and electronics. This role requires hands-on experience with precision instruments and the ability to translate concepts into manufacturable products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development lifecycle from prototype to volume production of opto-mechanical products
- Design precision mechanical components and manufacturing tools using advanced CAD (preferably Siemens NX) and perform FEA analysis (preferably ANSYS)
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and technical teams to ensure design feasibility and product quality
- Apply expertise in kinematic design optics adhesives vacuum systems and precision machining to deliver innovative solutions
- Specify and optimize manufacturing processes and tooling to support product launch and scalability
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Optical Engineering Physics or related technical field
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in opto-mechanical design and product development
- Proven track record of taking products from concept through prototype to full-scale manufacturing
- Proficiency with ME CAD software (Siemens NX preferred) and FEA tools (ANSYS preferred)
- Strong knowledge of precision mechanical design principles and opto-mechanical systems
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct design experience with laser systems interferometers fiber optic components or similar precision optical instruments
- Familiarity with optical design and ray tracing software (e.g. Zemax Fred)
- Experience in semiconductor capital equipment and precision motion control systems
- Advanced degrees (MS or PhD) in related fields are a plus
