Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (CMHHFL) is one of two state hospitals serving our community. The vision of CMHHFL is to provide the highest quality mental health services to persons with complex serious and persistent mental health illness within the resources available. Our mission is to support those individuals in achieving their recovery goals and reaching their full potential. CMHHFL provides inpatient treatment to adult patients generally between the ages of 18-49. The hospital has 94 adult inpatient beds over four treatment units and opened an additional 44 beds (two units) in December 2022 with one unit currently occupied the other unit awaiting occupancy. These two forensic units will be dedicated to providing psychiatric stabilization and restoration treatment to individuals opined incompetent to proceed as a result of their mental illness. Medical servicesoccupational therapy neuropsychological-rehabilitation services and trauma-informed care services are available for all patients throughout the hospital.

Each treatment unit provides psychiatric treatment services to adult clients through the use of a Milieu Treatment Program based on models of milieu therapy and group therapy. The focus of treatment is ongoing assessment and interventions designed to assist individual clients to resolve the specific problems that brought them to the hospital and to return them to the least restrictive environment in the community. Approaches are strength-based trauma-informed and recovery-oriented enabling patients to learn more effective coping and living skills in order to function more effectively in the community upon discharge from the hospital. The psychiatric care and treatment modalities include milieu management group therapy activity therapy health education and medication management with the goal of providing a consistent and safe environment for clients and to assist them with the amelioration of presenting problems and symptoms and improve problem-solving and coping skills.

Description of Job

About this Position:
The Clinical MHC II is an unlicensed staff member who operates under the supervision of a licensed clinician within Clinical Services. This position is generally responsible for utilizing knowledge evidence-based research and interpersonal skills to establish therapeutic rapport and assist in treatment provision. The MHC II is responsible for assisting with court hearings visitation individual competency restoration programming under supervision and the provision of psychoeducational treatment groups and assistance with clinical treatment groups. The Clinical MHC II will support the Clinical Services team in the maintenance of support and behavior plans across the hospital. In addition this position will be responsible for assisting with group assignments patient movement to and from treatment group locations documentation and safety checks throughout off-unit events. The Clinical MHC II may assist with off-campus clinical outings for those in our care and in partnership with other disciplines. To best support the patients across the hospital the Clinical MHC II may attend and contribute to various treatment team meetings including treatment planning and debriefings. The Clinical MHC II may also partner with members of the treatment team to carry out treatment plan interventions participate in treatment plan review meetings collaborate in discharge planning and carry out other duties as determined to be important in an individuals care at Fort Logan. Duties may include:

Individual Intervention
  • Responsible for assisting with patient visitation and court hearings.
  • Provides general team support through the MHC referral process. Will help with providing individual competency interventions under the supervision of a licensed clinician.
  • Assist in the maintenance of behavior plans which consist of research consultation drafting interventions and adding plan-related documents. These plans are the responsibility of the licensed clinician and the Clinical MHC II will work under that supervision and direction to support the process as opposed to leading the process.
  • There may also be times when an individual intervention is approved by the licensed clinician to be facilitated by the Clinical MHC II after adequate training is received (i.e. cognitive remediation).
Group Intervention
  • Responsible for providing psychoeducation/didactic group intervention may assist in clinical group programming and assist with the facilitation of the assignment and treatment provision process.
  • Under supervision they may assist in researching the best practices evolving interventions and creating group materials in partnership with the licensed clinician for a variety of group interventions and psychiatric needs.
  • Assists in the creation and execution of a treatment group assignment process for each treatment unit and hospital-wide which will focus on patient-specific needs clinician skill set and safety. Treatment intervention may occur in the forensic units in the treatment mall and/or in the community.
  • During the provision of group treatment the Clinical MHC II is responsible for assessing patient responsivity appropriateness of materials and real-time decision-making to ensure the intervention is optimally received by those in attendance.
  • Shares responsibility for developing treatment schedules which evolve to meet patient needs. Lastly this position will assist in escorting patients throughout the hospital and possibly into the community for them to participate in group treatment.
Documentation
  • Responsible for documenting all patient contact interactions including individual and group interventions. Documentation is also required for other clinically relevant interactions collateral engagement team meetings and consultations.
  • All documentation is completed in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and should adhere to HIPAA requirements and privacy laws. Documentation is expected to be neutral unbiased and based on FAIR charting principles.
Consultation & Training Support
  • Requires support for hospital-wide clinical intervention and treatment needs including via consultation with individual team members teams and departments.
  • Supports clinical staff for training specific to clinically driven individual and group treatment interventions. This position will collaborate with the licensed clinician overseeing the intervention.
Other Duties As Assigned
  • Other duties as assigned include hospital-wide ad hoc activities milieu support etc.

Experience Only:

Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position

OR

Education and Experience:

A combination of related education in Behavioral Health related degree and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position equal to four (4) years
