Kentro is hiring a Systems Engineer to support a critical Zero Trust (ZT) surge initiative for U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). In this essential role you will be responsible for installing configuring troubleshooting maintaining and securing server hardware software and associated systems in alignment with Zero Trust principles. You will play a key part in the initial Iplan creation and the subsequent multi-year ZT engineering and operational efforts ensuring the reliability performance and security of critical IT infrastructure. This position maps to the DoD 8140 Systems Administrator framework at a Journeyman level requiring strong technical expertise in systems administration virtualization cloud platforms and cybersecurity.

Responsibilities:

  • Install configure secure and maintain physical and virtual servers (Windows Linux) and related infrastructure components based on architectural designs and security policies.
  • Manage system/server resources including performance capacity availability serviceability and recoverability.
  • Implement and enforce security policies on managed systems.
  • Maintain baseline system security according to organizational policies including the application of STIGs and security patches.
  • Manage user accounts network rights and access to systems and equipment based on the principle of least privilege.
  • Monitor and maintain system/server configurations performance and availability using appropriate tools.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software interface and interoperability problems performing repairs on faulty system/server hardware as needed.
  • Plan execute and verify data redundancy backup and system recovery procedures.
  • Develop and maintain systems administration standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct functional and connectivity testing to ensure continuing operability of systems.
  • Administer virtualization technologies (e.g. VMware vSphere) and support virtual machine lifecycle management.
  • Support the deployment and administration of systems in cloud environments (Azure AWS) ensuring secure configurations.
  • Contribute to the ZT Iplan by providing expertise on system capabilities configurations and security considerations.

Location: On-site in Tampa FL



Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Information Technology Cybersecurity Computer Science Engineering OR at least a minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in systems engineering/administration with a focus on server management virtualization and cybersecurity.
  • CompTIA Security CE (or a higher-level DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification)
  • Strong proficiency in systems administration including installing configuring updating and troubleshooting Windows and/or Linux server operating systems.
  • Good understanding of Zero Trust principles and their practical application to system hardening access control and security configuration.
  • Knowledge of computer networking concepts (TCP/IP DNS DHCP) as they apply to systems.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g. VMware vSphere Microsoft Hyper-V) and virtual machine management.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts (IaaS PaaS) and experience working with cloud platforms like Azure or AWS.
  • Skill in monitoring system performance availability and capacity.
  • Experience with system recovery including data backup and restoration procedures.
  • Knowledge of operating system hardening techniques (e.g. STIGs) and patch management.
  • Experience managing user accounts groups and permissions in an Active Directory environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell Bash) for automation is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented mission-focused environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting DoD or USSOCOM environments is highly preferred.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g. Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (AZ-800/AZ-801)).
  • Relevant Linux certifications (e.g. Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)).
  • VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV).

Clearance:

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI (Sensitive Compartmented Information) eligibility is required.
