Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS
- Preferred bachelors degree in criminal justice public administration or a related field.
- An additional four years of management level experience in corrections or law enforcement may substitute for the degree
- Preferred five years of experience in corrections public safety or related government operations.
- Alternate combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience as a Montana POST certified sworn officer is preferred.

MISSION - Montana Department of Corrections is creating a safer Montana through Accountability Rehabilitation and Empowerment.

- Ensures the efficient and effective implementation of department programs and initiatives.
- Leads and manages a diverse team of Bureau Chiefs and Wardens.
- Evaluates current processes to facilitate continuous improvement.
- Works closely with other divisions to ensure consistent congruent progress towards department goals.
- Assists in Managing and stewarding the Public Safety Division budget;
- Develops relationships with internal and external partners in support of the Public Safety Division.
The Deputy Division Chief reports to the Public Safety Division Chief.
The hourly rate of this position includes the statutory increase effective July 1 2025 in accordance with HB13.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong program development and management capabilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Data analysis and program evaluation proficiency.
- Understanding of correctional best practices and industry trends.
- Ability to work effectively in a challenging institutional environment.
- Familiarity with Montana state government operations.
