Job Description
Job Title: School Bus Driver
Location: Shirley School District Shirley Arkansas
Reports To: Transportation Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Employment Type: Part-Time: roughly 3-4 hours a day split between morning and afternoon routes
Job Summary:
The School Bus Driver for Shirley School District is responsible for transporting students safely to and from school extracurricular activities and special events. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the safety timeliness and well-being of all student passengers while maintaining strict adherence to Arkansas state laws and district transportation policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate a school bus along designated routes and schedules in the Shirley School District
Ensure the safety of all passengers during loading transport and unloading
Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure operational safety
Maintain appropriate student behavior and discipline on the bus
Report delays accidents incidents or mechanical concerns to the Transportation Director
Follow all Arkansas traffic laws CDL regulations and Shirley School District procedures
Keep records of route times mileage maintenance and student counts as required
Attend required safety trainings and district transportation meetings
Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior
Participate in regular emergency evacuation drills with students
Exhibit professionalism punctuality and a commitment to student safety at all times
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred
Valid Arkansas Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
Clean driving record and successful completion of all required background checks
Ability to pass state and federally mandated drug and alcohol screenings
Strong communication skills and the ability to interact positively with students parents and staff
Ability to remain calm and in control in emergency situations
Dependability and consistent attendance required
- Must be at least 21 years of age
Working Conditions:
Exposure to varying weather conditions including rain snow and heat
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
Must be able to sit steer and operate foot controls for extended periods
Frequent entry and exit from the bus using steps or handrails
